870-meter-long airstrip...

870-meters is 2854 feet... that is TINY! Unless, all he has to fly are pipers/cessnas/bonanzas.

I fly out of a 2800 foot strip. It is almost exclusively single-engine.

A 747 needs 2300 meters, or 7500 feet, for comparison.

It could be useful for a small emergency get-away plane or he just wants to fly an airplane as his hobby.
