It's Official: Trump Picks Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson To Lead The State Department
Zero Hedge ^ | 12/13/16 | Tyler Durden

Update: It's official, moments ago President-elect Trump confirmed he will nominate ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson to be his secretary of state: In a statement released by his transition team early Tuesday, Trump called Tillerson's career "the embodiment of the American dream."

“Through hard work, dedication and smart deal making, Rex rose through the ranks to become CEO of ExxonMobil, one of the world’s largest and most respected companies," the president-elect said, adding that Tillerson's "tenacity, broad experience and deep understanding of geopolitics make him an excellent choice."

"He will promote regional stability and focus on the core national security interests of the United States. Rex knows how to manage a global enterprise, which is crucial to running a successful State Department, and his relationships with leaders all over the world are second to none," Trump added.

And the obligatory tweet:

After days of speculation and strawmen, and following Mitt Romney's statement earlier, AP is reporting that President-elect Donald Trump has selected Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson to lead the State Department, according to two people close to Trump's transition team.

In your face Mccain and Graham.

I suspect they are going to try to effectively blackmail trump over this nomination. They will want something in return for their vote - House of Cards style

Rubio, McCain and Grahame aren’t going to like this. (which is actually a pretty good recommendation for the pick)

I remember reading an article by Jonah Goldberg after Pence turned in such a good performance at his debate. According to Goldberg, since Trump was such an egotistical freak, he would, that week, begin to criticize Pence. Trump did just the opposite.

In fleshing out his staff, Trump has chosen people who are mighty in accomplishment. Trump is not intimidated by accomplished people; he much prefers them. Trump credits his success to the people he promotes. I wonder how Goldberg can reconcile his views on Trump now.

That the thing about being one of these emotion driven #Never Trumper Leftist hacks. You never heave to worry about logic or reason, all you have to do is feel something for it to be valid

People need to remember that business relationships are usually not friendly. They are based on taking financial advantage of the person with which you are doing business. Mr. Tillerson may have had a business relationship with Mr. Putin, but beyond cordiality and respect, I seriously doubt there was anything close to what most of us would consider friendship.

This is a good thing. We need people in power who look at things fundamentally differently than the likes of Hillary, John Kerry, and Jeh Johnson. As for his closeness to Putin, that does not concern me. Western Media portrays Putin as a thug, but at least Putin is running Russia for the benefit of Russian citizens—not for the benefit of foreign migrants to Russia. Unlike the Western democracies, Putin isn’t using his power to slowly turn Russia into an Islamic state. And while we cry about the annexation of the Crimea, how would we react if Hawaii or Alaska suddenly broke away from the US?

Trump and Pence are both A’s.

“They will want something in return for their vote...”

Don’t believe that Trump can be extorted. He will TAKE something from them rather than GIVE something.

Did McCain contest Obama playing footsie with the Cuban regime? You talk about murdering thugs.

Also, the democrats can not say anything since they backed Obama with his overtures to Castro.

I am referring to the made-up nonsense about the SOS selection and his supposed ties to Putin.

The first thing he should do is fire as many people as possible and replace them with loyalists.

Then work with congress to "re-structure" the department, eliminating as many posts as possible and producing a "leaner, more efficient department."

Finally, create a foreign service academy along the lines of the military service academies with future diplomats appointed by their congressmen and senators. This will improve the regional and ideological diversity of the foreign service and eliminate the power of leftist ivy league institutions.
