As gun sales have skyrocketed over the past 19 months, ammunition sales have also surged, with “17,850 tons” of imported ammunition being sold in the past 12 months. That is nearly 18,000 tons of ammo in a year’s time and approximately “2,865 tons of bullets” that were imported in November alone.

Thanks, Breitbart. I had no idea 17,850 was nearly 18,000.

Sellier and Belloit is the only 9x18 I can find around here. I did get some Russian Silver Bear for my 82. Both shot just fine.

Sellier & Bellot (Czech) makes excellent ammo.

Prvi Partizan (Serbian) is pretty good too.

Most of the Russian ammo is junk, especially the steel cased ammo.

I buy most of mine on-line from AIM Surplus.

I bulged the barrel on my first 82 with a squib round of Silver Bear. I’m still a little leery of it.

However, considering the CZs were made to eat steel case stuff it’s nice to have the option if brass isn’t available.

I got my 82 back when they were $200 a copy under my C&R, two in fact. I should have bought half a dozen. Great little pistol.

If you are lucky enough to find any and want to pay super inflated prices.

I disagree for the most part. Depends somewhat on the caliber, though.

You probably would have to order domestically made ammo to get good prices. Freedom Munitions makes excellent ammo and their prices are quite competitive. Get on the email blast list for some of these suppliers.

I've noticed that some domestic mfg are making steel cased ammo now. The only steel stuff I use is 7.62x39, not much point in paying a lot to run brass through an AK.

I almost bought a .223 when the Russian ammo was going for 21 cents/pop. It disappeared when Obama came.

I think there’s going to be a big drop in ammo prices soon. I’m waiting for that.

I still long for the days when I did my own reloading. Alas, I left home and didn't take the reloading equipment with me, although I did take my rifles and pistols, and my equipment was sold. I digress. When I quit reloading, I could make a bullet (30-06 & .270) for about 10 cents. Got a lot of brass from the local National Guard unit. Just had to fiddle with the primer area. Had 100's, if not, 1000's of rounds.

I also reloaded 303 British & 30-30.

And this is after the ATF banned the importation of 5.45x39 7N6 ammunition.

That’s easy, There is no such thing.

I keep hearing that, but I've gotta wonder. For instance, when I have more ammo on hand for my favorite gun than I have seconds to live, I'll figure I won't need any more. Right now, I hope I have many years yet to live, so I could stand to buy some more ammo. But someday, the doctor is going to say, "Libwhacker, you only have six months to live." Then I'll know that anything more than about 16 million rounds, tops, is too much. :-)

There’s nothing wrong with steel cased 7.62x39 in appropriate rifles. Generally not corrosive, if of modern manufacture.

I almost bought several .223's & 7.62's when the Russian ammo was going for 21 5.8 cents/pop.
