A New York man’s legal defense for murdering a UPS driver is apparently to claim he thought he was brutally killing president-elect Donald Trump instead.
Justin Barkley, a 38-year-old Ithaca man, is charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of William Schumacher in a Wal-Mart parking lot Dec. 8.
But during Barkley’s arraignment hearing Monday, during which he attempted to enter a guilty plea, Barkley says the person he killed was Trump, not Schumacher.
“I shot and killed Donald Trump purposely, intentionally and very proudly,” Barkley said at the hearing....When asked whether he could be convinced otherwise, Barkley replied “I hope not.”
The judge refused Barkley’s guilty plea and ordered him to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether he is fit to stand trial. If he does stand trial and is convicted, he faces 25 years to life in prison.

There's something weird about the story if you read about it at some of the other links (from the national news sites cited above): The DEFENSE attorney (allegedly) tried to talk the judge into taking the guilty plea and NOT ordering an psych evaluation (a prerequisite to a successful insanity defense).
I was scratching my head as to why and now I'm wondering if (and this is just wild speculation on my part I admit) it couldn't have been because someone did not want the story to get out that liberal hysteria over Trump might have finally gotten an innocent man killed.

So this guy is a master in knowing what to say and how to act crazy. He knows all the words to defend himself. 38year old men with no history of mental illness do not go off half cocked like this.
He spent 8 years there and believe me if he were schizophrenic or bipolar psychotic it would have been picked up.

Most political assassinations in this Country have not been done by snipers. You do what you can to protect the Prez.

this guy obviously listened to all the hate-filled bombast coming from CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc., etc., and acted on it. Remember when the loons tried to link Palin’s election map to the shooting of Giffords a few years ago, they came up with that within a matter of minutes.
