Stop calling almond, soy and rice milks 'milk,' 25 members of Congress say

Got milk? Twenty-five members of Congress say if it's from soybeans, almond or rice, it should not be labeled as milk.

Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) and Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho), leading the bipartisan charge against “fake milk,” signed a letter along with other congressional members, asking the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to investigate and take action against manufacturers of “milk” that doesn't come from cows.

They’re just paying back the dairy farmers for their campaign contributions.

Did you drink Mama’s milk?

That’s a tradition in Massachusetts. Are you still living there? Perhaps you have become wise in your old age by drinking the milk of knowledge.

How about “tuna packed in water” that is actually packed in vegetable broth made of soy?

StarKist, Bumblebee, Chicken of the Sea - they all lie on the front label.

And your cognition will continue to diminish.

I am aware of the studies you probably refer to that were published on the web where mammal form of milk promotes brain function.

On the other hand conscious reasoning on my part also recalls other studies that show that these promotions are mostly obtained during the feedings from their mothers.

So since I am way past suckling at the teet and have switched from any form of milk product to help with my blood sugars, I will use my better judgement and stick with the Almond Milk.

Merry Christmas

No kidding. Low fat half & half!? What’s the point? I got some by mistake once. Disgusting. The whole point of half & half IS the fat.

“It’s called almond milk because “nut juice” just sounds nasty!”

The men in my clan and some women burn through our daily calcium and protein intakes. To avoid leg cramps and other cramps, we take calcium supplements.

One of our younger male relatives for a while dated a vegan nut. She convinced him to go on the nut milk instead of his regular milk.

In spite of increasing his calcium tab doses, he was in a state of constant leg/calf cramps. This happened in the late spring when he would normally ride a bike to work and extra miles after work. The calf cramps were so bad he drove his truck to and from work.

One day, he texted his mom, my wife, a lifetime FP RN about what to do.

She texted back, “Ditch the Vegan $itch, and start drinking regular milk.”

He went to a little local bodega during noon hour and bought several quarts of milk. He had finished a quart by the time he got back to work. He finished the rest of the milk that afternoon.

By the time he got home the cramps were gone, and he went bike riding with no cramps and knocked down another quart while riding 10+ miles.

He ditched the Vegan $itch and drinks his whole milk without any guilt and rides his bike without cramps.

Dictionary says milk is a fluid secreted by female mammals.

They have a point. Calling something else milk is misleading labeling.

Milk is defined as a liquid resembling milk? That’s one weak definition.
