Iranian dissidents seeking meeting with Trump
fox ^ | 12/23/16 | Ben Evansky

President-elect Donald Trump infuriated the Chinese by breaking with years of protocol in accepting a call from Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen. Now, members of the Iranian opposition are seeking a similar phone call – even a sit-down – with the incoming president, hoping he keeps to his campaign vows to renegotiate the Iran nuclear deal and get tough with Tehran.

Fox News has exclusively obtained a letter being presented soon to Trump from a group of influential Iranian dissidents, asking him to follow through on reconsidering the deal, even as President Obama has cautioned against ripping it up.

As long as he vets these "resistance" folks, I'm sure he'll handle this wisely.

I myself would sure as heck want to know exactly who these “influential dissidents” are, specifically, and what exactly is driving them and with what support from whom.

To my mind, the real dissidents in Iran are the young people who may be more open to a meaningful relationship with the West instead of being intent on destroying it. So, in that light, what causes me caution is this “influential dissident” thing.

So many trying to claim he has no idea of what he is doing even as all the evidence says he knows more than most have known over the last 24+ years.....

I wouldn’t trust these dissidents or any other Muslims for a meeting. Forget it.

Smells like the same ones who cheered 9/11 and whine that we don’t trust them.

It would be good if he maintains contact with actual pro-democracy opposition from Iran and Reza Pahlavi among exile Iranians in the US/West.

However he should stay clear of the snakes of the”National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI)”, which is just a disguise for the Islamic-Marxist totalitarian, terrorist cult “Mojaheddin-e Khalq / People’s Mojahedin Organization Iran” (MEK/MKO/PMOI)... this terrorist cult has murdered dozens of Americans in Iran before the 1979 Revolution and was one of the most violent anti-Shah and pro-Khomeini groups.
Only after the Revolution they broke with Khomeini and defected to Iraq, where they fought for Saddam (and thus are seen by Iranians of all kinds as miserable traitors).

Now the MEK/NCRI has it’s political branches in Paris and DC where it heavily sucks up to the neocon warmongers and their foreign friends (like Saudis) who are hostile to Iran.

Also Trump should not lend his ear to those who may try suckering him into another disastrous military “adventure” in the MidEast.

Early in his administration Obama had a real chance to overthrow the Iranian regime but he steadfastly and shamefully maintained silence while the regime brutally suppressed the people flocking the streets in protest against the regime.

That was a chance to stop Iran getting the bomb without war. In the wake of the Iraq fiasco war was certainly an unpopular option, even a limited airstrike of questionable utility, and so that left surrender or sanctions.

Characteristically, Obama chose surrender and lifted sanctions.

Perhaps Trump can reinvigorate the people of the Iran even after the repression.

This I where Trump needs advice....and not from Obama. Bolton migh the best advisor on this.

We know Iran lies their a** off...and that the terms forwarded to Obama...was no pre-meet demands. In other words, our captives were OFF the table to start with.

Iran NEVER has and never will give us anything.

Some Sunni Pakis and Arabs publically cheered 9/11.
Iranians mourned and held vigils for the victims of 9/11 (even inside Iran). They have no sympathy for Saudi terrorists, who are their own dead-enemies.

A substantial segment of Iranians are not Muslim, nor are they Christian. They are pro-western in culture and eastern in religion. They are desperate - and have been for many years - to throw off the Muslim yoke.

Does anyone know anything about the Shah’s son? I wonder how the non-muslim Iranians feel about him.

Return Iran to Zoroastrianism.

Apparently the Mullahs in Iran are (magic) carpet baggers.

The Shahs’ son is fat and living the good life. I remember him offering to fight in Iran-Iraq war. He would have been killed by the Mullas right off the bat. It’s a shame all those beautiful women have to cover up.

There were substantial left-wing/communist elements among those who overthrew Shah of Iran. They were all purged, executed or driven into exile. I think some of them parade themselves as pro-democracy activists these days. Many years have passed and people forget. Any people affiliated with Fedayan-e Khalq and Mojahedin-e Khalq are suspect.

I read somewhere that these organizations still have some underground cells inside Iran, which can be useful assets for Western Intelligence. It seems that providing intel using using their cells inside the country is a way for them to curry favor with the West.

Yep, the NCRI is just a front for the terrorist islamo-marxist MKO/MEK. Totally toxic and the US falling for them would only strengthen the Mullahs.

Iranians are increasingly (in Iran secretly, in exile openly) turning to Zoroastrianism as a national religion or at least national ideology. Also many turn to Christianity. I have dealt with exile Iranians who are much more anti-Islamic by deep conviction than Western Christians.

Islam is a death cult imposed by Arabs centuries ago.
Iranians eventually must shed it off or transform their brand of it.

The Shahs son is well intentioned, but too wishy-washy and ineffectual... still an important voice. He seems to me also hamstrung by US politics.

In the end the Iranian people alone can decide their system.

A few years ago, Iran dissidents attempted an overthrow and were cut down. The US stood by and did nothing. I would suggest these are remains of those people who are again trying to be heard by Washington. I support their efforts and am sure Trump will lend them an ear. The time has long since passed when we as a freedom loving people should turn a deaf ear to the truly oppressed crying out for our attention. We should have heard them before. Let us listen this time.
