Federal agencies rush to fill job openings before Trump takes office Jan. 20
Washington Post ^ | 31 December 2016 | Lisa Rein and Juliet Eilperin

Several federal agencies are accelerating hiring in the final days of the Obama administration to ensure that as many new employees as possible are in place before President-elect Donald Trump imposes a promised hiring freeze.

Leaders at these agencies are filling open positions with transfers and outside hires and are making internal promotions before Trump takes office Jan. 20, according to internal documents and interviews.

The hiring could increase tensions between the Trump transition team and the Obama administration — a relationship that has grown worse in recent days due to disagreements over how the United States should handle its relationship with Israel and the issuance of new sanctions against Russia over its role in hacking incidents tied to the election.

Sean Spicer, the incoming White House press secretary, said in an interview late Friday that an agreement was struck in November that no new hires would be made after Dec. 1.

“After the election, the current administration notified us there would be a hiring freeze as of Dec. 1,” he said. “The understanding was that there would be a full accounting of anyone put on the payroll after then.”

White House Office of Management and Budget spokeswoman Shannon Buckingham said in an email early Saturday, “On Dec. 7, the administration imposed a moratorium on the hiring of senior executives within the civil service, known as the Senior Executive Service or SES.”

“This policy is consistent with previous transitions and is intended to ensure that incoming agency heads have the opportunity to make or approve executive hiring decisions that will impact the agency’s performance in the next administration,” she added.

According to an OMB official who asked for anonymity to discuss a private conversation, OMB senior adviser Andrew Mayock told Trump’s transition team executive director Rick Dearborn at a Nov. 21 meeting that the administration intended to halt any new SES hires as of Dec. 7. While Dearborn asked for a list of any new hires in that category after the election, and Mayock acknowledged that request, the official said, Mayock did not commit to providing such a list.

Supposedly, you can’t fire federal employees. Can anyone confirm this?

Gambling that Trump won't want to let go a bunch of low and mid level federal employees perhaps.

Foolish gamble, I'm thinking.

Methinks these “people” will emulate their ideological father, Nicolae Ceausescu.

They will continue to deny the authority of the people right up until they are metaphorically taken out and shot.

If you cannot fire them just channel Sheriff Joe and build tent cities in rural areas for these bureaucrats to work in.

I've seen that idea expressed several times over the last couple of weeks, and think it has a great deal of merit.

Call it Bureaucrat Boot Camp, 'No Place For Sissies". LOL

...all this extra hiring is just more actions that Trump will have to fix and when he fires theses new hires it will be used to try and discredit him and to show how mean he is by the left.

Indubitably. It's the sole reason the Obama regime is doing this.

It really is.

What the political left hasn't yet come to grips with, is the fact that Trump is an old hand at this. He's been the Chief Executive Officer of a multi-billion dollar enterprise for over forty years, and knows how to delegate authority where necessary, to remove bad actors and accomplish his senior goals.

This is nothing more than a speed bump.

So, I guess the juvenile actions the Clintons and their cohorts perpetrated, on their way out of the WH, are probably still on the table, too. Sanitize those keyboards and telephones, and everything else that their vindictive, soiled hands might have touched, before handling ANYTHING.

Anything to clog up the sewers and start fires, so DJT, et al, have double the work to do, starting day one. He’s already accomplished more as a PE, than Oblobo has, in eight years.

Yes, you can. Most easily for cause. Timecard fraud is a biggie.

Govt workers and contractors have to go through a basic background check before they can be hired, and if their job handled classified material, the next check has to be a full-field one which can take months.

To the FReeper who said that govt employees watch porn all day. Doesn’t happen any more. Computers are constantly monitored for porn, spam, etc even to the point that legitimate websites are banned because of poor monitoring programming.

Contractors can be very productive because they have to produce according to worked out timetables and in the legal area, according to case timetables (mediation, depositions, offers/counteroffers, and court dates/Discovery timelines, etc).

If I told you how much money I have saved the taxpayers over the years as a contractor, you would crap a cow, or maybe a whole herd. Some of us do work hard and produce good results so give us some slack.

It’s all in the leadership of the agency you work for down to the supervisors. If they are good, your work can be very good because they will trust you to do it right. Poor leadership leads to poor production. It’s as simple as that.

If I was given only 5% of what I have saved the taxpayer over many years, I would probably be richer than almost anyone who posts at FR.

On one project alone, I helped reduce what the govt was sued for, about $80-90 MILLION to a final payment of only $8 MILLION.

Let’s see. 5 Percent of $80 Million is $4 Million. I could live on that, very well and that’s just one instance in where my research/advice paid off bigtime.

You can thank me by sending a small donation to the Leukemia Society. They do great work.

It’s really gonna suck trying to do a job when you have no resources to do it with.

Hopefully global warming “scientists” at NASA and government funded universities will be unemployed soon. Incredible how they get millions in government grants per year to fake a few reports . This when the USA is about to get hit with an arctic blast that will send temperatures 50 degrees below normal .

And my favorite liars are the scientists trying to justify their unneeded jobs and “research” the ones who are searching for aliens claimed to have received a transmission from aliens from a galaxy 6 billion light years away https://www.rt.com/news/333551-alien-signals-radio-space/. As if we are stupid enough to believe that aliens could predict human life on his little rock from 6 billions years ago.

For the first time, scientists have successfully traced mysterious “fast radio bursts” (FRBs), which have been speculated to be signs of extraterrestrial intelligence, to a galaxy six billion light years away

https://www.rt.com/news/333551-alien-signals-radio-space/

Fire all these fraudsters now.

Your observation is my observation as well.

As an FAA contractor many years ago, I witnessed the only govt civil-service employees doing work - the contractor overseers. They worked their collective tails off making sure us contractors delivered the goods.

The atmosphere in the govt offices was one where most doors were closed. Opening a door invariably led to someone asleep.
