It’s rather strange.... All it took was the election of a completely incompetent and diplomatically daft President such as Obama over an eight year period to destroy

America’s position as the preeminent diplomatic broker. Russian influence has grown substantially and the Barrack Obama, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton before him are the responsible parties for this dangerous decline in American influence. They fiddled while the world burned and Vlad and the Russians have stepped in to fill the void.

Obama’s legacy is the decline of American influence throughout the world... Clap. Clap. Clap.

Trump is going to have to lean on Russia to demand Israeli recognition accompanied by an understanding that Russia will not fund aide to them [Hamas-Fatah] without that recognition. ... Best case scenario.

Uniting these two factions is not a good thing. Getting Russia involved is not a good thing.

The best thing is for countries not directly involved to butt out. Outside actors only pour gasoline onto the fire. That includes UN, EU, US, and obviously the Saudis et al.

Whats more, treating backwater mayors and mafiosos as if they were heads of state only pours gasoline on the fire. Their only source of importance and revenue is the threat of violence, which to be credible must be renewed periodically with real violence. They have no reason to seek peace when violence is the only thing that puts them on anyone’s map. The day they choose peace is the day they go back to being backwater mayors, and all the billions stop flowing their way. The incentives are backwards and as a result peace with these killers and shakedown artists is not on the horizon regardless of what anyone says.

Soviet documents ‘show Abbas was KGB agent’; Fatah decries ‘smear campaign’

Israeli researchers: Notes from USSR archivist who defected indicate PA president was working for Soviets in Damascus in 1980s while Putin’s current Mideast envoy was stationed there

September 7, 2016.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas was a Soviet spy in Damascus in the 1980s, Israel’s Channel 1 television reported Wednesday, citing information it said was included in an archive smuggled out of the USSR.

According to Channel 1’s foreign news editor Oren Nahari, the famed Mitrokhin archive, kept by KGB defector Vasily Mitrokhin, revealed that Abbas was a Soviet mole in Damascus in 1983.

The documents — obtained by Israeli researchers Isabella Ginor and Gideon Remez — purportedly show that Abbas, code-named Krotov (mole), was involved with the Soviets while Mikhail Bogdanov, today Vladimir Putin’s envoy to the Middle East. was stationed in Damascus.

Bogdanov was caught in a diplomatic tussle earlier this week after trying to broker a summit between Abbas and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Moscow, who both claimed a willingness to meet while decrying the other for allegedly refusing. ..."

Pro-Hezbollah Paper: Russia, Iran, Syria, Hezbollah Form Alliance

Sept 23, 2015

A prominent pro-Hezbollah newspaper in Lebanon reported Tuesday that Russia and the terrorist organization have formed an alliance and will fight together in Syria. "The parties to the alliance are the states of Russia, Iran, Syria, and Iraq, with Lebanon's Hezbollah as the fifth party,"

Al-Akhbar Editor in Chief Ibrahim al-Amin wrote. The pact would be called the "4+1 alliance", a pun based on the P5+1 that negotiated the nuclear deal with Iran. Hezbollah is a proxy of Iran based in Lebanon and Moscow has been working with Tehran to save Bashar al-Assad's regime, even sending men and weapons to Syria.
