President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday attacked General Motors in a tweet, claiming the auto giant is making a Chevy Cruze model in Mexico and then sending them to U.S. dealers tax free.

"General Motors is sending Mexican made model of Chevy Cruze to U.S. car dealers-tax free across border. Make in U.S.A.or pay big border tax!" Trump said on Twitter...

It’s only 2% because Americans don’t want that version of the Cruze, not because GM’s artificially limiting the import numbers. If Americans were actually buying the wretched thing, GM would import them by the hundreds of thousands.

Funny, but when he rails against Obamacare, he just bashes the law and says what he doesn't like about it and what features would be better. I have yet to hear him bash Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Why not just tweet about how much NAFTA sucks and what he wants to do to improve or repeal it? Why trash companies that follow the law as written? A law that Trump himself took advantage of when it suited him. Why is that?

Well on Obamacare we don't get that. He just says the law sucks and why and starts giving some possible fixes (cross state insurance selling, etc.) That seems like a reasonable and straight forward way to do it. He doesn't bash health insurance companies.

He and congress can make this NAFTA thing go any way they want. Why not just start going after the law?

He already HAS tweeted about how NAFTA sucks and how he plans to renegotiate it.

He’s already posted how he plans to fix healthcare, it’s a white paper on his site.

You’re forgetting that Government Motors was bailed out by the US taxpayer - and as a result, things are very, very different for them.

I have yet to see him tweet bash Blue Cross/Blue Shield, or United Healthcare. Why?

Ford never took a nickle. Neither did Carrier or others that have been raked over the coals. A couple of months ago he jumped down the throat of some rinky dink ball bearing company I'd never heard of.

GM should have been left to rot IMO.

I agree - but GM, having been bailed out by the US taxpayer, should not be offering one single non-US made car in their dealerships.

BC/BS or United may have tried pushing for Obamacare but it’s also a fact they got screwed by it. On top of which, allowing true interstate competition in healthcare will screw them over even more. They’re boned, there’s no need for him to go after them when his repeal and replace plan passes.

And GM used $5 billion in ‘bailout’ money to invest in Mexico.

Exactly so. GM, having dumped that bailout money into Mexico instead of their actual US operations (which needed it more), does not get to bitch when the big boss to be looks askance at them for making *any* US market car in Mexico.

Now that you mention that, it would have been a good condition to have been made as part of the BK. Had the Democrats done that, and pulled it off, they might have won this last election.
