The bottom line is: To what extent should the US care what happens in Mexico once the wall is up?

If Trump is able to cajole companies into repatriating that is good for US.

Why care. They’ve had decades to get their house in order. I don’t know what percentage but its not an insubstantial amount of bureaucrats collecting bribe money. They sold their souls to the criminal underworld. If they can’t straighten out then who really cares what happens their side of the wall?

We should care. But we need to take care of America first. A weakened America is no good to anybody.

Once America has it's industries back, there will be opportunities to give jobs to Mexico.

And no one is saying Mexico can't trade with the U.S.. What we are saying is that if you are going to sell into the U.S., you need to pay a tariff to help support the country. You can't move manufacturing to your country and expect to sell back into the U.S. without paying for the privilege to access our markets.
