>During the time Baker was around I remember a cartoon in the local newspaper and it had a picture of Assad of Syria (papa Assad) and it said “Yes, we want to make piece with Israel... Many pieces” Nothing has changed.

Actually a lot has changed. The real conflict in the middle east is between KSA and Iran fighting proxy wars with each other(Syria and Yemen) while Turkey makes noises about getting the Ottoman empire back together. Israel has an unofficial alliance with the KSA and Egypt against Iran.

Granted. But the point is, nothing has changed in the sense that Israel is surrounded by hostile forces that want to make it into pieces, no matter how you look at it. If the enemy of your enemy is your friend, it's not a sound basis of a lasting friendship. Just a basis for short term political goals and a false peace that could not last until there are generations of Changed attitudes.Nothing has changed in thousands of years for the Jewish people in the sense I am speaking of.

It goes way beyond politics and regional conflicts of the past decades. Names and alliances may have changed but the hatred of the Jewish people has not whether we are talking Antiochus Epiphanes, Hitler, King John of Castile, the expulsion from Spain, and so on. Read A History of the Jewish People edited by H. H. Ben-Sasson if you want a better grasp of what is historical.
