Trade war will cause China to reassess their illegal military adventures as funding dries up. Imagine Walmart being denied Cargo City's Containers... Just a embargo and access a minimum 25% import duty for items -- all then visually inspected item-by-item would end this dispute rapidly. China cannot afford to have her exports shut down, especially if the cost is keeping those islands illegally.

On the topic of shooting war, a tsunami wave created by a subsurface nuclear explosion would "wash our hands" in dealing with those islands - they would be history... or maybe the Yellow menace would be Whitewashed away.
