Christmas just kept coming last year for the NRA crowd in Nevada.
Three days after the holiday, Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt gave them another gift when he announced that the November ballot measure on universal background checks had hit a roadblock.
Cue the Charlie Brown music. Based on the chorus of smug comments about how opponents of the initiative had warned voters all along that it was flawed, the types who can’t drink enough NRA Kool-Aid had quite a celebration.
Here’s hoping they had plenty of fun, because now it’s time to get back to the important job of reducing gun violence in Nevada.
And that means state leaders should focus on carrying out the will of the voters and find ways to make the background check initiative work.
Based on some of the hyperbole surrounding Laxalt’s announcement, you might have thought the measure was dead. Laxalt even said it would be impossible to enforce.

Don’t the ‘officials’ have a duty to see that innocent people aren’t murdered? How’s that working out?
Instead of putting it all on Californians you might want to look at all the illegals living in Nevada, especially Clark County.
7.2% of the general population. 12.2% of the workforce. The highest in the nation.
The illegals are the ones bankrupting Nevada. They are the ones Dems are turning out to vote.
This “argument” has been floating around for week or so. The two foolish women that were/are fronting for bloomers in Nevada have been penning letters to the editor in various newspapers making the claim that the AG has a duty to make Question 1 work. These idiots had the initiative written specifically with the FBI doing the checks because they didn’t trust the Nevada Dept of public safety to do it AND they would of had to put a fiscal impact statement in the voter info package. It is also specific in Nevada statutes that initiatives cannot be modified with for three years. AG Laxalt is not about to risk having his office sued by doing something not specified in the initiative.
