In 2014 Cuba was on the brink of collapse. With Venezuela no longer able to bail out the communist regime Obama came to the rescue. Cuba, which should be the bread basket of the Caribbean, can't produce enough food to feed itself. The U.S. has been selling foodstuffs and some other critical items to Cuba on a cash basis. Part of Obama’s deal with Raul gives Cuba a line of credit to purchase U.S. products and pay for them at some later date. In recent years Cuba has been forced to pay its debts with sugar and rum.
