In another bout of Inauguration Day fake news, liberal news reporters in the Oval Office claimed President Trump removed the bust of Martin Luther King from the office. The incorrect rumor/tweet spread through the liberal blogosphere like free safety-pins.

Time Magazine’s political correspondent Zeke Miller dropped the match and others quickly threw dry tinder on the rumor’s fire.

This story fake about the MLK bust DID convey one element of truth: It showed how low Time's journalistic standards are.

Being a White House correspondent is a top job in the profession - but Time is content to employ sloppy Zeke Miller, who "reports" a whopper of a falsehood.

For this kind of reckless violation of journalism 101 principles, Zeke would be canned from a high school newspaper. Yet as far as I can tell, as of this hour, he is still Time's man at the White House.

Disgusting.

But it is true that most of Martin Luther King’s first book Stride Towards Freedom was plagiarized.

Most of his PhD thesis was also plagiarized.

Only a fool would deny his charisma and the justice of his cause, of course.

There was a time when top publications wouldn’t put up with such a flagrant misreport. The bushleague “journalist” would be told to go find a job in Toledo or Akron. Zeke Miller’s continued employment by Time is a lesson in how journalism’s standards have cratered.

Can you really blame the other media?
They checked 2 sources to confirm their story, Time Magazine and Huffington Post. =)

He didn’t. Time was done in by someone standing in front of the bust, blocking their view, what clowns.

But I wish he would remove it. It would be bad PR but MLKjr is not someone of whom busts should be made, let alone put in the White House.

I’d put up busts of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington, instead. Even Harriet Tubman.

Hopefully Mr Miller will pay for his LIES when the daily briefings start.

The MLK bust was put there by Obama.
No problem with Trump sending it back to National Portrait Gallery.

Unfortunately, this SNAFU will now probably stop any thoughts of sending it back. (maybe the reporter planned it that way ? )

Fake news I’m sure, but can we get back the bust of Winston Churchill?

ML King was a Republican for most of his life. Too bad there are some on Freerepublic who want to blast him. He may have had some personal issues, but he was right about equal rights and ending Democrat-sponsored segregation. Trump, as a republican president, should move MLK’s bust to an even more prominent place.

Can’t agree with you there. MLK’s cause was ending Jim Crow in the Democrat South. King was a Republican until 64, when Goldwater stupidly disavowed the civil rights act. Republicans need to reclaim MLK, not allow the Democrats to pose as the party of equal opportunity and civil rights.

Republicans need to reclaim MLK
that's a different way to look at it.
I'm of a mind that anything Obama did that can be undone, should be.

agreed. one of the things he did was try to claim the Democrats are the rightful party of civil rights and the cause that MLK fought for. That needs to be undone. GOP needs to remind people that Republicans were the party of civil rights - the party of MLK’s cause - and the Democrats were the party of Jim Crow.

So Trump can “undo” Obama’s attempt to smear the GOP by KEEPING King’s bust and putting it in an even more prominent place.

The Churchill bust has already been placed back in the Oval Office. Sorry I don’t have a link but you can search Google News and confirm what I’m saying.

I love Booker T. His autobiography, Up from Slavery, is a must read-—great for older children, too. What a great man!!! He was a solid Christian, through and through. A great man who created a school from scratch, which would benefit 1000s of the poorest, most illiterate people imaginable. He was born a slave with no father, yet rose to be one of the greatest men of his time.

He understood that if the Negro would become useful and productive in a society (learn skills that were essential to flourishing and self-reliance), that the whites would begrudgingly change and embrace them as equals (if they were Christians, of course).

He never even “hated” the racists. He understood why they felt the way they did, and knew that it would take great work and virtue to change those embedded emotions over time. And the only way to change it was with “love” and hard work. Without the humility in using your hands to learn to farm, and build buildings/make bricks, there would be no virtue formation and he knew if virtue wasn’t learned by children, they would be lazy, worthless and be hated.

I would put up a bust of Billie Holiday, with a quote that should be her signature line: "God bless the child that's got his own." Because when people in this country can pay their own bills, raise their own children, and not have to rely on the man to do for them, America will be great again.

Maybe fake but Trump should have done it. Erase any sign or symbol of Obama. Put it back later if he wants to but make it go away for now.
