Opening his first official week in office, President Donald Trump warned business leaders Monday that he would impose a substantial border tax on companies that move their manufacturing out of the United States, while promising unspecified advantages to companies that manufacture domestically.
All you have to do is stay, he said during a morning meeting in the White Houses Roosevelt Room.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Marillyn Hewson of Lockheed Martin were among the executives who attended the meeting. The gathering kicked off a jam-packed day for the new president, including an evening reception with lawmakers from both parties and a sit-down with union leaders.
The president also planned to sign multiple executive orders in the Oval Office. Trump had pledged to quickly use his executive authority to withdraw the U.S. from the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact agreed to under the Obama administration. Hes also expected to sign an order implementing a federal government hiring freeze.

Varney gave this meeting good coverage. It sounds like it was extremely productive and great for US jobs.
Comparing a workday crowd against a Saturday crowd is less than objective, especially when Trump supporters are more likely to have jobs and be productive members of society.
I bet they really liked that proclamation.
Ass. Press reveals how little they know how business works. “unspecified benefits” my foot.
“Trump’s outreach effort comes after a tumultuous first weekend in the White House that included lambasting news organizations for correctly reporting on the size of the crowds at his inauguration and mass protests against his presidency on the following day”
Are there any conservatives here on FR willing to weigh-in on Trump’s alleged desires to (somehow) impose taxes via his executive authority?
And his recent actions to single out specific businesses for particular interest from the chief executive?
Where is this going?

The first move in dismantling federally funded student loans should be to make students at educational and journalism schools exempt from eligibility.
No reason for the US taxpayer to fund propaganda against the country.
Varney is a a very happy man lately. I watch him in the AM for my news.
I saw that. Trump is keeping the media obsessed about pettiness while he is busy working on important things.
Yes, Varney and Dobbs are downright giddy these days.
Citations please.
And his recent actions to single out specific businesses for particular interest from the chief executive?
It's not a Bill of Attainder unless there's a bill.
The Executive branch cannot create a bill.
It's attention, is all. It's use of the Bully Pulpit.
Me too!
A president does have limited authority to levy tariffs on other countries. It looks as though he is first using the carrot instead of the stick by lowering taxes and reducing regulations, which is the preferable method.
I was watching Dobbs every night right through the inauguration. I saw him take on the media and both sides of the aisle like no one else. A true journalist. I was happy to be on board the Trump train with Lou from day one. It was only fitting to share the victory with him. Fox Business got me through the negativity that was on Fox News.
Sad thing is that Colvin is proud of that Columbia degree.
It’s attention, is all. It’s use of the Bully Pulpit.
Yes, it is and from what I am seeing Trump knows how to use it.
I watched FBN all day Inauguration Day. LOL, Dobbs must’ve had a lead weight chained to his ankle to keep him from flying into space, he was so happy!
Playing them like a fiddle. It'd be tragic if it wasn't so hilarious; they're so predictable.
