The Mohammedans do not forbid abortion. They allow it prior to 20 weeks IIRC.
I’ve never heard that, and any Muslim I’ve known was very clear that Islam forbids it (as well as artificial contraception). Given that Islam is de-centralized in terms of authority, I guess you can get 20 answers from 20 people; in my experience I got exactly the same answer from over a dozen fellow students and co-workers over the years (and they were from various countries).
Before the American embassy was stormed in Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979, the protesters sacked the Planned Parenthood center there.
It’s my impression that Islam does not have an agreed worldwide position on the subject of abortion. In the UN, Islamic countries have taken a strong position blocking abortion promoting programs. They have kept the abortion “industry” out of Islamic countries.
In the recent past, there was a political Islamic-vatican coalition against the global abortion enthusiasts.
However, practice and policy differs dramatically from country to country.
They do not generally recognize that life begins at conception. You could say they’re science-deniers on that point.
