When Obama took office in 2008, Arkansas had 1 Republican US Representative. The other 3 Representative, both US Senators, and the Governor were Democrats.
When Obama left office in 2017, Arkansas has 4 Republican US Representatives, both US Senators, the Governor, both state legislature chambers and all state office heads.
Missouri is going through a similar transition.
Of course, not all Republican politicians are worth much. We do have one Republican US Senator who is a regular backbencher.
It probably would have been easier to lop off the 'delta' counties/Mississippi River counties and Pulaski County and make them into their own state. But then they would have their own 2 Democrat US Senators and Representatives and Governor. Those 2 Senators would likely neutralize the 2 regular Republican US Senators from the existing state.
