As word spread that an 8-year-old American girl was killed by a U.S. military operation in Yemen over the weekend, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer made what sounded like a departure from Obama administration policy.
Spicer, responding to a question about targeted killing attacks, assured reporters Tuesday that "no American citizen will ever be targeted."
The Obama administration took a different approach, drafting a 2010 legal memo justifying the targeting of an American citizen for death by drone strike. The author of the memo, David Barron, was later appointed to be a federal judge.

An 8 year old was sitting up at 2:30 AM amongst a group of terrorists.

I suspect it was for material, but that is still not a clear argument when it comes to the value of a ‘Merican[SEAL].
This is a dilemma. There are circumstances where I would most definitely order the hit of a U.S. Citizen.
If that person was off our shores on a large boat and was about to fire off a very strong WMD cruise missile at NY or another major or strategically important target, I'd give it about half a second's thought and sign off on it.
Get him. Get him NOW!
And she would have been eligible to be President when she reached 35 according to some here.

Obviously they felt it was vital going forward with this raid - which was planned by the previous administration but never executed
Don’t support targeting American citizens abroad for drone strikes (we have a Justice system) and applaud Trump admin for curbing this policy.
What is an 8 Year Old American Girl doing in Yemen, especially being near a bunch of Terrorists?
Maybe she was married to one of them. 8 seems to be a favorite age for Muslims girls to marry.

Her father forfeited his citizenship by joining a foreign hostile army. I’m sure she was a cute kid, but her father directly endangered her life, and those of her brothers, by using them as human shields.

The senior military official said the 8-year-old girl, Nawar al-Awlaki, also known as Nora, was among the noncombatants killed in the raid, which also resulted in the death of several Yemeni women. U.S. officials said some of the women who were killed, however, were combatants and had opened fire on the SEALs as they approached the al Qaeda camp.
The girl's grandfather, Nasser al-Awlaki, Yemen's former agriculture minister, told NBC News a different story. He identified his granddaughter as the dead girl from a photo taken at the scene of the raid but based his description on what happened at the camp on conversations with what he characterized as Yemeni sources.
"My granddaughter was staying for a while with her mother, so when the attack came, they were sitting in the house, and a bullet struck her in her neck at 2:30 past midnight. Other children in the same house were killed," al-Awlaki said. He said the girl died two hours after being shot.
"They [the SEALs] entered another house and killed everybody in it, including all the women. They burned the house. There is an assumption there was a woman [in the house] from Saudi Arabia who was with al Qaeda. All we know is that she was a children's teacher."
Al-Awlaki said the girl and her mother had fled the Yemeni capital, Sa'ana, where he (sic) lives, to escape the heavy shelling.
The child's mother, Anwar al-Awlaki's widow, survived the raid with a minor wound, according to Nasser al-Awlaki. However, Anwar al-Awlaki's brother-in-law was killed in the raid. The death toll varies according to the sourcing, with the Pentagon saying 14 militants died, along with "numerous" civilians. Nasser al-Awlaki said Yemenis were circulating a body count of combatants and civilians as high as 59.

If my enemy came into my home the same thing would happen. And if my enemy happened to be a SEAL team, I’m guessing the end results would be the same. Of course, if I knew that my enemy was a SEAL team, I wouldn’t be holed up in my home with my family.
That said, God is just, and I pray that the young girl is now free of evil and death.
They recovered laptops and other stuff relating to other terrorist groups and plans. I think the attack was primarily for that reason. I’m guessing that if everybody just quietly surrendered they would have been taken alive.
I know if someone breaks down my door at 2:30am, my first instinct would not be to raise my hands.
The TARGET would not the be American, the TARGET would be the WMD. Problem solved.

The reports I’ve seen indicate that in fact her mother was killed along with (new intel) Anwar al-Awlaki’s brother in addition to the previously mentioned.
