Cruz, Sanders face off on Obamacare
CNN ^ | 2/7/2016 | MJ Lee and Eli Watkins

Posted on 02/08/2017 12:18:33 AM PST by iowamark

Sen. Ted Cruz urged fellow Republicans Tuesday to quickly "honor the promises" the party made over the years to repeal Obamacare. "2010, 2014, 2016, I believe were a mandate from the voters. We're tired of the premiums going up. We're tired of deductibles going up," Cruz said at a CNN town hall debate with Sen. Bernie Sanders over the future of Obamacare. "Should Congress move swiftly to repeal Obamacare? Absolutely." Cruz and Sanders -- two senators with diametrically opposed views of government's role in health care -- faced off at the debate moderated by CNN's Jake Tapper and Dana Bash and featuring questions from an audience consisting of both defenders and critics of the Affordable Care Act. Cruz's call on his party to "repeal every word of Obamacare" came as the GOP is grappling with how quickly to repeal the law. The party hasn't yet reached a consensus on an alternative to the law. President Donald Trump said Sunday that a replacement plan may not be rolled out until next year. The GOP's incredible, shrinking Obamacare repeal

The town hall debate underscored the many challenges surrounding efforts to dismantle the Affordable Care Act -- a sweeping health care law that covers some 20 million Americans. The evening began with each lawmaker laying out starkly different views of the controversial law.

Just watched it.

I thought it was quite good - better than any presidential debate. Both did a good job presenting their sides and even found some common grounds.

Ted was his usual strong, polished. well prepared self, but Bernie was no slouch.

Good format allowing lots of give and take without the moderators getting in their way.

CNN actually did a good job - didn’t play favorites. I think Trump hitting them over the head is having some desired results.

I think this issue, basically got so big, it bit the GOP in the backside.

Trump was the one guy, who actually wants to fix healthcare in America. Everyone else (including Cruz) is saying Obamacare is the problem.

Obamacare was a problem, but so was the system it replaced.

Cruz is wrong, and Trump is the President.

Because of this issue, partly.

Cruz is wrong about healthcare savings accounts, interstate competition and customized insurance plans? When did he say that our previous health care system didn’t need reform?

Bernie was no slouch

>He’s a despicable communist. I loathe him.

Lenin and Trotsky could really debate too, you know. Would you say Lenin “was no slouch?”

How does this set up future debates? Let me say that any Democrat wanting to run in 2020 should go through a debate like this with Cruz. Face the music. One issue at a time. Next should be taxes, then energy. It sets Cruz up good for SCOTUS-EVERYONE WILL know him better.

Cruz is auditioning for 2020, believe that. Frankly, I couldn’t watch more than 5 minutes of Cruz blathering so full of himself. . .even as I agreed with everything he was saying. . .it was only a reminder of everything I dislike about him. . .his inordinate self-love, his blind ambition for power and, most of all, his inherent unlikeablity.

The system it replaced only had ‘issues’ because government touched it, became part of it.

The answer is not, therefore, to involve government more until we can get it out. Power over people is Never given back.

The answer is to sever government involvement completely.

You agree with everything he says. But would vote for someone who you disagree with instead.

I’m thinking we have discovered a new variety of insanity. Much like the liberal version, but different.

I suggest you relax, grab a beer, and think about life in the future if Senator Cruz became Justice Cruz replacing Ginsburg on the Supreme Court.

A good model for health care insurance is automobile insurance.

1) NO gummint interference.

2) See rule 1.

3) Competition across state lines and the winnahhhh

4) EVERYBODY BUYS AND PAYS FOR THEIR OWN INSURANCE.

Ted’s auditioning for 2020 OR 2024. At 44, he was quite young to run for the GOP nomination. Republicans tend to like older candidates, and candidates that finished second in a prior contest for our nomination. Ted would also make a fine running mate for Mike Pence and STILL be in good shape to run for the presidency in 2028 or 2032. By such time, Joni Ernst couldn’t deflect being a VP candidate, as she did with Trump, saying she had just assumed her position of U.S. Senator. Of course, by that time, we’ll have our wall with its big beautiful gate. Germany will be meeting its NATO obligations. And, who knows how many stars will be on the flag.

Time flies when you’re having fun.

BWT did you like the joke he made about himself, having been born in Canada?

EVERYBODY BUYS AND PAYS FOR THEIR OWN INSURANCE.

Ever hear of an "uninsured motorist?" I even pay extra on my insurance in the event I'm hit by one. We still need to figure out how to make it not only affordable, but to get everyone's skin "in the game" so to speak.

Not saying it should be mandatory, but you can't walk into any hospital whenever you have a headache and demand an aspirin.

I don’t have a problem with Cruz being a Supreme Court Justice, but I will never support him in the primary for sure. General I probably would but would hate doing so.

The uninsured should treated but their bill will be paid from a fund setup by the government. It will be considered as a loan and treated like a student loan. It can never be discharged unless fully paid off and wages (or government benefits) can be garnished to repay it.

Ever hear of an "uninsured motorist?"

An uninsured motorist is a criminal that is breaking the law. The reason we all pay extra on our policies is because we know that regardless of the law there will always be outlaws.

We pay so that if we get involved with an 'uninsured motorist' we don't get stuck with the bill.

Depending on the state and type of accident the 'uninsured motorist' might be sent to prison.

That's the opinion of the primary voters, hence President Trump.

That's right where he belongs, making correct Constitutional rulings and not having to get along with anyone. . .perfect for Cruz and for us. . a win/win for sure. CRUZ FOR SUPREME COURT!!
