A group of Republican senior statesmen is pushing for a carbon tax to combat the effects of climate change, and hoping to sell their plan to the White House.

Former Secretary of State Jim Baker is leading the effort, which also includes former Secretary of State George Shultz. In an opinion piece published Tuesday night in The Wall Street Journal, they argued “there is mounting evidence of problems with the atmosphere that are growing too compelling to ignore.” […]

Carbon taxes are designed to raise the cost of fossil fuels to bring down consumption. Baker and Shultz detailed in the opinion piece their plan for a gradually increasing carbon tax, with dividends being returned to people, as well as border adjustments for the carbon content of exports and imports and the rollback of regulations. …

These “senior statesmen” are just tools in the hands of whoever is manipulating them. It is sad that their handlers could not care less about what is left of their reputations. Instead of recalling their past accomplishments, they will be remembered for their most recent tomfoolery.

I suspect you have exactly guessed their motivation. Jim Baker was always a snake, a useful snake at times when he was used against Democrat vermin, but a reptile nonetheless. AGW and Climate Panic Mongering is always and only about money and power.

Baker is 86. Schultz is 87.

GO AWAY ALREADY! Take your Carbon with you.

Honestly. Washington DC is an addiction some folks can’t beat.

Before talking to these 2 coots ask them who they voted for.

Might not be that bad. For instance, it might document the carbon footprint that is necessary to manufacture all those wind-towers, which are not cost effective, as well as those solar panels that need toxic material in that manufacturing process.

FTA: “Carbon taxes are designed to raise the cost of fossil fuels to bring down consumption.”

They should change the (R) to a (D).
Raising taxes to restrain the growth of the economy?
They are insane and should be kicked of the republican party.

it’s not just about hte money- you can’t control the masses unless you cripple them financially and make them dependent on the government- I personally believe this scam will be used as a form of ‘crowd control’ in the end times forcing people to accept the mark or go without the essentials of life such as heating, food, fuel etc-

Good point on the tariffs. The hydrocarbons employed to supply energy for the majority of manufacturing are consumed over in Asia; and, everyone especially the Chinese people suffer from the produced pollution.

We are not speaking of CO2; but, the pall of soot and smog which blocks sunlight, making the midday sun seem as twilight. The ozone carries across the Pacific Ocean and results in air quality failures in North America form non-local sources. Yet, the CO2 has resulted in green growth added to barren areas of the world in excess of twice the land area of the United States.

The United States is the only country which has actually reduced use of hydrocarbons, such as to result in a drop of all emissions. So, tax Them to pay for remediation of the problem they create!
