Way back in 1955 at a National Broadcasting Convention Edward R. Murrow gave a speech on this and warned about mixing editorial speech with the reporting of hard news. Well they did not heed what he said.

I don’t think so. IIRC he stated it at the fashion event, it was reported that a NYTimes reporter had said it, eventually he was identified and he basically apologized for it, saying he shouldn’t have said it.
As other posters said, he is pissed at being irrelevant, and he is probably doubly pissed that President Trump has finally shouted out to the American people from the Presidential Pulpit for all Americans to finally hear whether they like it or not:

I watched some film about Nixon awhile back -wish I could remember the name- it had lots of archival footage and I was quite surprised just how cold and rude Nixon was when addressing the press. Trump smacks them up pretty good but it’s a far cry from how brutal Nixon was.

Looking back on that time, I don’t think so. I think they were just as bad or worse, but very few people realized it. We sat in front of our TVs and thought that fifth-columnist traitor Cronkite was telling the truth.
