NEW YORK — J.C. Penney said Friday that it will be closing anywhere from 130 to 140 stores as well as two distribution centers over the next several months as it aims to improve profitability in the era of online shopping.

The closures represent about 13 percent to 14 percent of the department store operator's current store count, and less than 5 percent of total annual sales. The company said that it would also initiate a voluntary early retirement program for about 6,000 eligible employees.

I'm not a fan of JCP, but if this trend continues, we'll eventually have no choice but to do all our shopping on-line at Amazon. That sux.

J.C. Penney to close 13 to 14 percent of stores

It won't be too long before you will be unable to go in and closely examine and try on clothes.

JC Penneys all but excludes whites in their advertising circulars...White Customers Don’t Matter

No direct reference to JCP, but there are a number of stores that have made a successful transition from brick and mortar to internet sales. Some have a good history of mail order sales as well.

Two entities that come to mind are large camera/electronics outlets located in New York. The local camera store is gone in all but the largest markets. And yet, these stores remain in brick and mortar as well as having huge online sales.

They are the ones to study if you want to remain in business. Companies like Sears needs to do more of this, if it’s not too late for them.

Hope not. I purchase clothes online at JCP quite a bit.

They did a STUPID thing here when they moved the return/pickup counter to the middle of the second floor. Too much trouble and, for me, too painful. It used to be near an entrance.

One thing that I like about JCP is that the color choices for clothing go beyond black and grey.

JC Penneys all but excludes whites in their advertising circulars.
All advertisers, whether on TV or in print, have over represented minorities for a long time.
If white folks are involved, they're usually shown as dolts or dummies - especially white males.
I don't shop a lot these days, but I'll exclude the offending companies (like JCP) whenever I can.

Like B&H Photo? I dealt with them back as part of my job back in the early 2000s and they were terrible.
Essentially misrepresented the products, then made it as hard as hell to do a return, refund, etc.

I haven’t bought anything from them in decades. They went rogue far too long ago to my taste. Let them have their gays, and racially correct views and all the rest. They just won’t be getting any money from me. Ever

With their catalog sales, Sears and Penneys pioneered the kind of long-distance shopping that Amazon has turned into the wave of the future. Then they got cold feet and reinvented themselves right out of business.

So JCP still hasn’t recovered from 2012/2013 CEO Ron Johnson’s pro homosexual advertising...And yet companies still feel the need to pee on that electric fence in spite of all the warnings against such folly...SMH!!!

I love B&H photo. Best prices and I have never had a bad customer service engagement. The local camera shops here in Silicon Valley aren’t always professional and are only good for print consumables.

I have tried to support the local camera stores but the service is bad and to top it off, I have to pay an additional 9.25 percent so the State can ignore our infrastructure.

I think pretty much all big corps bave queer/sex/race/religion-indoctrinated MBAs managing them.

JCP, like Sears, blew it for online shopping. I suspect they’re closing stores in rough neighborhoods with high losses, like WM has. WM, however, seems to be going much heavier into online sales for merchandise, and expanding grocery in the brick stores.

Big dittos on that! JCP, now Starbucks having problems, Target - to name a few .... these companies whose Leftist/Lib/Dem/Prog CEOs shove their agendas in the faces of their customers, deserve what they get. A good part of America isn’t into gays, illegals, “refugees”, transgenders, etc. They also forget that their “rights” end where our noses begin and they have the same rights as the rest of us, but should not have “special” rights that elevate them above us. Let these Leftist companies try to make their profits on those that espouse their agendas, not mainstream America - they won’t be getting any of my business.

We need to fight back and change some language, too:

Sanctuary cities need to be “outlaw” cities because that is what they are.

Undocumented immigrants need to be ILLEGAL aliens/invaders because that is what they are. I have no problem with “immigrants” who go through the system & legally ‘immigrate’ and assimilate. I have a lot of problems with illegal invaders which is what the country is currently infested with.

The media/Leftist meme is that Trump is removing “protections” from the transgender community by rescinding Obummer’s EO. Actually, Trump is restoring protections to women and little girls to use bathrooms, dressing rooms & lockers without worrying about biological males invading their privacy or worse.

I used to shop at JCP both in stores and online. I have to buy tall clothing and they used to have a big selection of tall clothing. Things started to go downhill when that CEO that started the gay ads took over. Even though he is gone, many of the changes he introduced are still in effect. I was in a JCP store recently (first time in at least 2 years), and they still have the men's clothing department broken out by brand. So, instead of looking at men's shirts and comparing brands, you have to go to the Van Heusen section to see Van Heusen shirts, the Levi's section to see Levi jeans, etc. They no longer had a tall section, unless there was a smattering of tall sizes mixed into each section.

Loser company. This closing of stores will be about as effective as Luke, Han, Leia and Chewie trying to stop the trash compacter from closing on them with a flimsy metal pole.

These corporate entities are actually believing these NY ad/marketing types about how much of an influence these groups are in society. The marketers are influenced by Hollywood liberals with an agenda and the fact they are so insulated from real society in their own little coastal rats’ nests.

The realistic number percentages just don’t add up. 12-15% black and 2-5% gay whatevers STILL is just 1 out of 5 people, if even that. It isn’t race or however normal perverted lifestyle is supposed to be, but what the product offers, does and delivers. And these idiots have forgotten that and are too blinded by preferential bias to see it.

B&H has done me very well. As has Adorama, OneCall, and a few others. They might have had issues in the past, but I believe that they’ve maybe overcome those issues. Good return policy, fast sales, and usually free shipping.
