Sometimes events are kept secret because they would be embarrassing if known. Someone in Gulf War 1 told me about some stupid fatal actions by our troops that never made it into the news.

Per security regulations, it is illegal to classify an ‘embarrassing action.’ I’m not saying that it hasn’t happened, but doing so is illegal and the person doing the classification can be punished.

I doubt if that has changed. Long US tradition of not intentionally shelling houses of worship. However taking direct fire from forces occupying a house of worship normally (pre-bh0) meant one could return fire.
