Driving Illinois, north to south, or vice versa, was probably the most boring drive I ever made. I only went as far U of Ill in Champaign/Urbana, and that was enough to deter me from ever wanting to do it again.
The two worst drives I ever made were going through Nebraska on I-80 and through Kansas on I-70. Deadly dull.
On the map it looks like Illinois is as long north-south as Florida.
I never drove Illinois, but I used like seeing the palm trees in Florida (Dixie Highway days).
There used to be a song about the sights traveling the Mississippi from Wisconsin to Southern IL... it went something like this:
Corn, corn, corn corn corn
Corn, hogs, corn CORN corn
Corn, corn, Qaud Cities corn,
Corn corn corn, corn more corn
Corn, corn, corn corn corn
Corn, corn, corn CORN corn
Corn and soy, boy oh boy
Corn corn corn, corn and soy
Corn, corn, corn corn corn
Corn, corn, corn CORN corn
Soy and corn, field of milo
Corn corn corn, big grain silo
Corn, corn, corn corn corn
Corn, corn, corn CORN corn
Corn and soy, boy oh boy
Corn corn corn, corn and soy
Soy, soy, soy soy corn
Corn, corn, corn CORN corn
Soy and corn, milo red
Corn corn corn, to the riverbed ...
