Under going anesthesia at any age is dangerous....no guarantees. I knew a woman in her late forties who went in for a hysterectomy, stroked on table, and never made it back

It happens

“Under going [sic] anesthesia at any age is dangerous...”

Too true, at least for general anesthesia. My dad (a doctor) used to say that general anesthesia was “killing you just enough”.

I’d just as soon not have seen this story anyway, being 61 and scheduled for abdominal surgery in a couple of weeks.

In heart surgery the greatest risk for stroke comes from perfusion AKA the bypass machine, where the blood leaves your body to get oxygenated, and then returns. An embolism or a clot can originate there and cause stroke.

I dont know when his surgery was, but he probably never woke up and the family chose to stop life support if the injury was devasting.
