DARRELL ISSA GOES OFF THE DEEP END
Powerline ^ | February 25,2017 | Paul Mirengoff

Posted on 02/26/2017 2:32:42 PM PST by Hojczyk

Maher undoubtedly wants Team Trump, and indeed President Trump, to be prosecuted. But on what basis? What crime are Trump’s people thought to have committed? What is the basis for believing they committed it?

Maher didn’t say. Neither did Issa. Until there is good reason to believe that someone working on Trump’s behalf committed a crime, there is no reason to call for a special prosecutor.

Moreover, Maher got his facts just about completely wrong when he tried to invoke as precedent the Hillary Clinton email scandal. Loretta Lynch did not recuse herself from the decision whether to prosecute Clinton; she deferred to James Comey, but retained the right to overrule him. And no special prosecutor was ever used. It was Comey’s show.

Yet, instead of correcting Maher, Issa backed his conclusion (from false premises) that “you’re going to need to use” a special prosecutor. (I’m not sure what Issa meant by “special prosecutor’s statute and office;” the so-called Independent Counsel statute expired years ago.)

Here’s how I think this should work. The appropriate committee[s] in Congress should investigate. The FBI can investigate if it sees fit, and apparently it is investigating.

If, based on the result of investigations, a target emerges whose identity is such that Attorney General Sessions’ might be conflicted, he should recuse himself. The appointment of a special prosecutor probably should be a last resort, used only if a potential conflict extends down the line at the Justice Department.

We’re very far from any such scenario. I don’t think the Senate Intelligence Committee has even started investigating yet.

To think I worried about this sh## a few weeks ago.

Nobody’s kicking Trump out of power.

He will destroy them first.

And there are no ground.

THEY HATE that he apologizes to NO ONE an takes no prisoners.

Hey Trump, kill em all and let God sort em out.

(I’m not sure what Issa meant by “special prosecutor’s statute and office;” the so-called Independent Counsel statute expired years ago.)

It means he's either not the brilliant and dogged example of Truth, Justice and the American Way he was peddled as (with dismal results every time), or there are plans afoot to revive the statute.

Or both.

That will do it for Issa’s political career. He only won by 1200 votes this time, and Trump will remember this.

I think the Trump administration should have the same number of “special prosecutors” that the 0bama administration had...

[Why is Issa on his show?]

There’s a television camera there.

Issa is getting hit hard here at home. He barely eeked out a win last time around in a very dirty election against a virtual unknown.

Just last week, paid protestors invaded his estate, but the joke was on them because Issa had moved from that residence 2 months previously...lol. Issa had someone at the residence who handed out cookies. LOL. Local TV cameras were on site.

I figure Issa tried to score points with the Left and with McCain on Maher's show by making that stupid call for a Special Prosecutor. Issa is all too often a renegade on stupid issues but this is NOT a stupid issue.

I don't want to lose Issa's seat in Congress to a demonic-rat because San Diego County is down to only 2 GOP seats: Issa's and the younger Duncan Hunter's.

I just heard pelosi on a fox news break on AM radio that over 100 republicans in congress are asking for an independent investigator to investigate Trump’s financial and business ties to Russia? And says that Sessions must recuse himself from the investigation.

Cong. Issa is up for re-election in less than 24 months so his campaign has already started, it appears.

This supreme phoney-baloney who has NO pelotas HAS GOT TO BE PRIMARIED !

His district is in the commie state of California, he barely won last time...and he's scared to death...he's got to get the Espanol vote, so he'll be trashing Trump any chance he gets.

He's a chispa ( Hispanic slang for a "shifty street-wise swindler").

Any freeper here from his district?

He was one of the last politicians from California anyway. That state is dead for Republicans. He probably would have lost in 2018 so no big deal.
