Adelai Stevenson lost in a landslide to Eisenhower in 1952, and incredibly enough ran again on the Dem ticket in 1956, when he lost by an even greater landslide.

I think it’s important to note that those scenarios date back to the era before TV became the primary form of media for political campaigns.
People thought that Adlai Ewing Stevenson was an intellectual, but oddly Eisenhower supposed read much more than Stevenson and wrote ‘’Crusade in Europe’’.
