CNN reported Wednesday on a senior administration official admitting that the White House intentionally misled reporters ahead of President Donald Trump‘s congressional address in order to get generate positive press coverage as part of a “misdirection play.”
Multiple reports Tuesday indicated that Trump would embrace a more moderate tone on immigration and would announce that he was willing to negotiate granting millions of illegal immigrants legal status. Most of those reports, cited to a “senior administration official,” came immediately after anchors lunched with Trump. Some of those outlets then just attributed the claim to the president himself.
But when it was time for Trump to actually give the speech, he said nothing of the sort. CNN’s Sara Murray complained the next day about “the bait and switch that the president pulled when it came to immigration yesterday. He had this meeting with the anchors, he talked about a path to legal status.”
“Basically they fed [them] things that they thought these anchors would like, that they thought would give them positive press coverage for the next few hours. A senior administration official admitted that it was a misdirection play,” she reported.
Host John King wondered why reporters should even trust the White House going forward. “It does make you wonder; so we’re not supposed to believe what the senior-most official at the lunch says — who then they allowed it to be the president’s name says — we’re not supposed to believe what they say?” he asked. “Maybe we shouldn’t believe what they say.”

Sheesh. You’d think they’d learn by now how Trump ALWAYS tricks the idiot press.
Perhaps it wasn’t a lie. Maybe it was feeding information to find out who is the leaker?
Misdirection, while the quarterback executes a Quarterback Sneak right up the middle on national TV. Fine gamesmanship.

Howie Carr said the same thing earlier in his show... he got the text of the speech - described it as “embargoed” - about an hour before the speech began...

That’s the ticket. The MFM tends to frown on misleading unless they are the ones doing the leading. FAKE NEWS is their domain. No one can do FAKE NEWS better than they.
It’s the pits when you’ve been played for a fool. People tend to laugh at you. A severe case of giggles has just set in.

Hopefully it’s just a few.. I can’t say I blame them though.. conservatives are so used to getting a bum deal all the time.. Almost a natural reaction to fall into the trap of bad news.
Hopefully Trump brought in a decent segment of the NeverTrump crew into the fold last night.
Yet the CNN article claiming Trump had caved on Dreamers was posted here, on FR. The gloom and doomers predicted...gloom and doom. The handwringers wrung their hands.
It’s one thing when Trump’s strategy confounds liberals. It’s another thing when, again and again, conservatives fall for it too.
I don’t believe this story and knew yesterday’s was pure garbage as well! But if it’s true that they set it up and as a result had a much wider audience, well... once again Trump plays chess while they all play checkers!
Yeah, and they SUCK at it! lol
What this actually does is tell people to watch Trump’s actions not fake news from the media.
