“But he explained that Trumps Secret Service protection probably did electronic countermeasure sweeps to check for listening devices and found the bugs. “
Trump said ‘wire-tapped’, ... NOT bugged.

and he said “just found out” — surely Secret Service sweeps for bugs in Trump Tower offices would have taken place a long time ago.... they may well conduct them periodically (one hopes) but very recent finds would not evidently tie back to the Obama WH.
Anyway, as you point out, planted “bugs” are not “wire taps” in the usual understanding of things, and Trump said his “wires” were “tapped”....

They don't even need a "wire" anymore to listen in. It's all digital nowadays and they can listen without even being there or having anything in the building.
Or at least that's what a former NSA guy on TV said this morning.

That's right. Trump's people have been sweeping for traditional physical bugs for years as part of protecting their assets and business. This is routine for big biz.
If they were hacked, I would think it was done remotely.

I can see the secret service agent ordered to plant the bugs asking Trump “where would you like me to put this one sir”. Funny as hell. Secret service used to be the best of the best and straight shooters. No politics.

Trump fired the head of the Secret Service. Plus he brought in his own guys to watch his back.

Specifically as I recall, Manafort’s place in Trump tower was wire tapped. Trump/manafort conversations were captured.
Bugging is a different and more explosive kettle of fish.
