Huh? NPR Blames ‘White Nostalgia’ for Trump on Classic Rock

Did you know your tax dollars support articles that all but label President Donald Trump racist? And suggest the same of your favorite singers, too?

Consider a new pop culture “think piece” from NPR.

The headline alone is all you need to read: “White Nostalgia Didn't Start With Trump — Just Look At Classic Rock”

Suddenly, the soundtrack to our lives has been thrown under the bus, and we helped fund it. It begins, of course, with calling Trump’s signature appeal racist.

For more than a year, Donald Trump has harped on white nostalgia.

A hearkening back to a rosy, but ambiguous, time in American history with his Make America Great Again slogan propelled his presidential run. It was a message, though, largely not embraced in minority communities, given that blacks, Latinos and women were fighting for equal rights during the same period Trump has indicated he believes America was great (the Industrial Revolution and the post-World War II 1940s and '50s).

Give the NPR scribe credit. He doesn’t mince words. Not a bit.

The late 70’s gave us Steely Dan at their finest. That music still sounds good today. It was fully rooted in jazz and light blues, spiced up with Peter Frampton like riffs here and there.

I was more or less relating to the clothing and the light show elements...that, and probably because I hit rock bottom in all facets of my life in the late 70’s...

Steely Dan? interesting music, strange lyrics, seemed a lot about self indulgence...but then, my idea of good music is 18th century Irish harp...

She’s no “progressive,” but she’s still a Democrat. Bugs the heck out of me
Yeah, my father (who passed in 2002) was the same way. He was a Dem as was his father, grand father and great grand father.
He would NEVER agree with or vote GOP. Example - he knew Bill Clinton was a scumbag but couldn't vote Bush so he had no choice but to vote for Perot - despite my warnings!
Back in the day, Dems and the Dem party were just totally different animals than today's Dems progressives, commies, anarchists, etc.

I’m 71, most of the classic music I listened to as a teen, were black groups, i.e., the “Coasters”, the “Platters”, BB King, Freddie King, Sam Cooke, James Brown, Nat King Cole, et al.

Music, is music...either you like the genre, or you don’t. I also liked Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin, and the Beach Boys.

In my “band years”, as lead guitarist, we played mostly rhythm and blues.

I like SOME of ALL music (except Rap, which is bitching to a beat), but I don’t like ALL of any genre of music.

Music is very personal, to most everyone. We don’t filter it through a “race” filter, or a “class” filter...we either like it, or we don’t.

NPR is full of $6/+.

I admit it.
I’m a total progressive.
Kansas, Neal Morse Band, etc.
Progressive rock.

Classic Rock, too, must all be Trump’s fault.

Here we go! It’s a$$holes like Tom Cole that are the undoing of the GOP as a Party that can actually lead.

I remember listening to NPR the morning after Trump won and hearing some gal say it was “uneducated angry white men” who were to blame. They live in a bubble.

I was a year ahead of Levi Stubbs Jr. in High school. Nobody cared that he was one of 4-5 black kids in the school. he was Levi Jr.

There is a CD of Harp Concertos from various composers, I purchased last summer. I have listened to it every day ever since I got it in July. I plan to buy a second CD to keep inside my apartment, using the other for my car. I didn’t expect the listen to be so satisfying.
You may enjoy some pieces.

Harp Concertos by
Handel, Boieldieu, Dittersdorf, Mozart and others.
Harpist: Marissa Robles
Orchestra: The Academy of St. Martins in the fields.
Director: Iona Brown
Decca: 425-723-2

Hmmm. Played that last week and probably again tonight. ;-) With some of my “brothers” at a weekly jam in a local bar.

Well, THAT’S going to go over like a Led Zeppelin. PBS has MANY Fundraising (Begging) shows devoted to Classic Rock, Rock & Roll, Motown, DooWop, etc. They know that the music is good, and the aficionados of Classic Rock are the most likely to have money and be generous with it.

Also, as Baby Boomers, we are the most NUMEROUS. So they just alienated the largest segment of their potential donors with that statement!

I love it when they eat each other.

I treat everybody decently until/unless they prove they don’t deserve it then I stay away. I have quite a few “brothers and sister” that I jam with and we never have a problem. But, then again, nobody brings up politics. ;-)

Most of almost any group in the US (other than such as the Black Panthers) would be majprity white, because the country is still majority white, and blacks are app 13% of the population and slipping behind Hispanics (who are often white).

But, a majority of that 13% of blacks vote ‘rat, without fail, when/if they vote at all.

AND...they are no longer “commercial-free”. There are ads all the time on PBS and NPR. They used to be disguised as “Thank you’s” but are now the same commercials one sees on other stations.

LOL! Well, someone did take a shot at Hall and Oates for “cultural appropriation”. Daryl said, and I paraphrase: “What? F that crap. Whoever said it can go F off.”

Twenty years from now this racism hate-fest will look as silly as hoop skirts. You can bet the guys flogging it will still be at it then, though. Some people live for hatred.
