My sister bought land up there to get away from the city, then a bunch of ugly turbines sprung up on her mountain, killing birds and making noise.

I think they mean fishermen.
Fishers are a kind of small predator in the Maine woods.
There aren’t any of those damn wind turbine near me, thankfully, but a lot of people who live near them elsewhere in Maine hate them....the noise, the blight on the landscape, etc.
Maine’s # 1 business is the tourism industry, so these windmills could threaten that cash cow.
Not mutually exclusive--often connected.
But specifically, they fear working-class white (Democratic) families because that's what lost them the election, and what those people will do next is a big problem.
Well, if scenery draws tourism, you are probably right about that.
