That’s an amazingly generous blanket excuse for any behavior whatsoever, and very conveniently couched in terms that make any objective assessment impossible.
I’m guessing that holding representatives accountable for their actions in office isn’t a big thing for you.
You:”Ryan sure acts like a man who has received an enormously large bribe, doesn’t he?”
Me:”He acts like someone who’s only interest is maintaining the majority.”

Or it’s an explanation of his behavior that helps you understand his actions, probable future actions, and what pressures might modify his behavior. Besides, accusing our leaders of only being interested in maintaining their majorities instead of using their majorities for positive change is hardly a complement.
