Iraqi government forces battling Islamic State for Mosul took control of a main bridge over the Tigris river on Wednesday and advanced towards the mosque where the group’s leader declared a caliphate in 2014... troops fought street-by-street against an enemy using suicide car bombs, mortar and sniper fire, and grenade-dropping drones to defend what was once their main stronghold... troops on Wednesday took control over the Dor al-Sikak and al-Nafut areas, site of the militants’ main weapons stores in Mosul just west of the Old City.

Weather was bad for air cover, but significant progress on the ground anyhow.

This is the hardest part - the center of the city, the most defensible areas, and where ISIS had its most important assets. Iraqi Security Forces continue fairly rapid advance, in the face of the fiercest resistance the ISIS can offer. After they grind through here, things are likely to speed up more.

God has not smiled on the ISIS Caliphate:

Hopefully they are executing every one of those animals as they are found. No one needs them escaping and coming home.

good news.

Too bad they can’t just level the ISIS mosque, turn it to rubble. Not worth the lives it will take to capture it more or less intact.

“what is this... like the 100th time we have retaken Mosul?”

This time, the Iraqis are taking it - we are just dropping explosives to help them.

The East side of the river has been cleared of ISIS, and 60% of the West side. ISIS should start falling apart in Mosul soon - waiting for the boss to get back with them new orders, when that boss is buried under collapsed building - going to get more ammo, and finding everyone else is gone.

The Government forces are chewing through the main command centers/arms depots in Mosul this week. Everything that will be left after this will be fallback or ad hoc organization and defense. Chaos on the ISIS side, and falling firepower.

On the Government side, a whole new Division is closing in from the NorthWest, soon to open a new front on ISIS - more guns vs. fewer guns = quicker conclusion.

Yes and obama and the democrats squandered the lives of those that died or were wounded or displaced because they support the terrorists.
