2 Penn State ex-administrators plead guilty in Jerry Sandusky abuse case

Two former Penn State administrators admitted Monday to mishandling child-sex allegations against Jerry Sandusky, pleading guilty more than five years after the scandal rocked the university and led to the downfall of football coach Joe Paterno.

Tim Curley, a 62-year-old former athletic director, and Gary Schultz, 67, a one-time vice president, could get up to five years in prison for misdemeanor child endangerment. No sentencing date was set.

They struck a deal in which prosecutors dropped three felony charges of child endangerment and conspiracy that carried up to seven years each.

Former Penn State President Graham Spanier, 68, was also charged in the scandal, and the case against him appears to be moving forward, with jury selection set for next week. His lawyers and the lead prosecutor had no comment...

According to investigators, McQueary went to Paterno a day after the 2001 shower encounter to discuss what he had seen. Paterno alerted Curley and Schultz, and McQueary met with both of them about a week later.

The administrators told Sandusky he could not bring children onto campus anymore, but they had no plan to enforce that rule, prosecutors said.

It was not until nine years later that an anonymous email sent to a district attorney led investigators to approach McQueary in the case.

Prosecutors on Monday also cited a 1998 complaint against Sandusky over his showering with a boy on campus that led to a campus police investigation and notification of the county prosecutor but no charges. Sandusky admitted hugging the youngster in the shower, and promised never to shower with a boy again.

That left Sandusky free to continue working with boys at his charity, his summer football camps and the nearby high school.

Meanwhile none of Pedorno’s other coaches get any criminal charge. Dirt meets the sweeper... under the rug.

Sandusky was moved for Maximum to Medium security prison a couple weeks ago. There might be some negotiating going on.

Might as well ping Penn State’s head cheerleader to tell us it was all a frame job.

Of course, JoePa did not know a thing about all this child sex abuse stuff. For these people to get convicted now clearly indicates that they were influenced by Paterno.

Spanier, noted Wife Swapping Studies Scholar, also whitewashed the Mikey Mann investigation of repeated data torture there at the State Pen.

Paterno knew. After the 1998 event, he changed his schedule for the first time ever. He was supposed to go on vacation with his family, but he changed it. Paterno NEVER changed his schedule.

Jerry Sandusky was one of the top 2-3 Defensive Coordinators in the country. Suddenly he leaves PSU and does get a single job offer. Word travels. They knew.

My family was die hard PSU. Most of us went to State College. We always heard smears against PSU because it was always above scandal (gold standard of the CFA)Then some rumors started about “pervert Sandusky” in ‘98 from OSU friends. I thought nothing off it. Then I heard a vicious rumor about Sandusky at the Alamo Bowl which proved to be true concerning inappropriate behavior with a kid. I believe the kid was part of testimony. I will never forget the Sunday morning reading the grand jury report about the crimes. To this day it makes me sick to my stomach. I looked up to Joe Paterno since I was a kid. I now have a child and look at life much more differently. The crime of Sandusky should put him in hell and the coverup is just as evil.

It is a sad sad story, one we have seen repeated in schools, churches, Congress, etc.. Most of us cannot imagine covering up child abuse, but it happens over and over again. Sandusky was rich and powerful and had rich and powerful friends.

Paterno certainly knew, and made sure that Sandusky did not get another coaching job. Incredibly, though, he did not bar Sandusky from campus or PSU athletic facilites. Paterno let him continue to run his “charity” for poor, fatherless boys. It is a shame that Paterno died without ever having to answer for his crimes. I have to wonder if his death was really a suicide.

Bull.

There is no way to know that, indeed the facts say otherwise.

here is the thing: The kid who showered with Sandusky that Macquarie saw/hear, well he was never part of the case against Sandusky when he was finally brought to justice. He said nothing happened, that day or later. He had an incentive to come clean, a money incentive. He said nothing happened.

Now it is likely, given that Sandusky had been caught already, that he stopped grooming this kid and moved on to another target, but that is speculation. When Paterno heard, he told the witness to go to the head of the department and the head of the Penn State campus police, who are a real police department compete with full police powers. What else do you expect him to do?

DON'T know if many posters know this..but Sandusky was recently transferred to the STATE PRISON in Somerset County, Pennsylvania..that is located in a rural area known as GARRETT, PENNSYLVANIA..

Our local news print ran a short article on it..that prison is huge, I believe it has close to 5,000 GUESTS living in it.

Many may recall.SOMERSET COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA IS WHERE, FLIGHT #93 WENT DOWN ON SEPT. 11, 2001 IN A RURAL AREA KNOWN AS SHANKSVILLE, PA.

“he did not bar Sandusky from campus or PSU athletic facilites. Paterno let him continue to run his “charity” for poor, fatherless boys.”

How was this Paterno’s job? You don’t understand how the University is run and by whom. Paterno had some control over the football program. Some control. By the 2000s, that control was even limited. The BOT wanted him gone from the 90s.

It’s a shame Paterno didn’t live long enough to see his name exonerated (and it was last year). You can believe and continue to post the lies but the court records have proven Paterno was innocent and the BOT and Spanier and Curly and et al were wrong. McQueery was wrong.

Where’s the investigation on Second Mile, where the boys Sandusky molested came from? The boy in the shower, the one Mcquery (sp) supposedly saw never materialized and that wasn’t in the convictions. The one that supposedly started all of this was not in the court case and never materialized.

What about Second Mile? I’ve been saying this for years. It was never investigated and was allowed to just go away and fold into other charities. Why? The Media and the political aspect allowed it to just disappear while the focus was on tearing down a great coach and philanthopist who happened to support republican politicians.
The Freeh report has already been debunked.https://ps4rs.org/archives/freeh-report/

Paterno had no say in the BOT package to Sandusky for use of the University’s athletic facilities. That was all the BOT and the pension package. He also had no say in Sandusky’s charity, The Second Mile. Which by the way has never been investigated and eventually was diversitized to “other” charities, also not reported on.

Why has The Second Mile never been mentioned, or just mentioned in passing, and never investigated considering that is where Sandusky got his boys.

What about Ray Gricar?

It’s easy and wrong to blame Paterno and Penn State. Sure blame the winningest coach and outspoken republican who the media hated, for a retired assistant coach who had access to penn state facilities per his contract by the BOT, and who founded Second Mile where he got his victims.

Again, What about the Second Mile? It got off scot free and was able to stay alive by diversifying into other charities. It was protected. Why?

Paterno reported the accusations by Mcqueery to his superiors. He did what is required by PA law. Why is he blamed? Why is Second Mile protected? Sandusky’s victims were all from Second Mile, his charity that was funded partially by noted politicians and tax dollars. Why was Second Mile not named in any lawsuits (cos the money wasn’t there, the money was there from the taxpayers for The Pennsylvania State University and the bogus NCAA crap). Why was Second Mile not involved at all?How is it that Second Mile got out of this clean?

Look into Second Mile.I think you’ll have a new perspective of this case.

I was a pretty big JoePa fan myself. I respected him. I loved the team because of him. Then when I was older, I discovered my father-in-law played street ball with JoePa as a kid. When the news about
Sandusky broke nationally, I didn’t believe JoePa could have known. Then I read about the 1998 incident and his scheduled vacation change. That told me he knew. He knew and he did virtually nothing about it. It’s kind of haunting to realize that one man can be so idolized that we become blinded to his shortcomings.
