Your post makes no sense. You mention your uncle the veterinarian saying “He also is adamant in his belief that a dog will *rarely** get a 2nd opportunity to bite a human and *****N-E-V-E-R***** gets a 3rd chance.” But that is not what this article is about. The owner taped the dogs muzzle for BARKING, not for biting. And indeed had the dog been bitten it should have been euthanized. I seriously doubt your uncle would condone taping it’s muzzle shut.
Biting wasn't my point -- but, then, you probably knew that.
My point was --- as others have more eloquently noted --- that the punishment is ridiculous in comparison to sentences that people get for actions towards other human beings.
They are, after all, just dogs...
A *good* vet would be prone to finding out *why* a dog bites.
Pain, tick borne diseases, hypothyroidism are *all* a few of many health related reasons why dogs “suddenly bite”.
But a *good* vet would already be aware of those.
FWIW, there are vets I would never take a fly to, let alone a dog.
Just because someone has DVM after their name, doesn’t mean they’re fit for the job.
