THIS IS THE SAMSUNG GALAXY S8, COMING APRIL 21ST
The Verge ^ | March 29, 2017 | Dieter Bohn

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is the nicest phone I’ve ever held. It’s a beautiful combination of glass, metal, and an absolutely massive screen in a body that’s much smaller than you might expect.

And that might not be enough to make it stand out anymore.

There are two versions of the S8: the standard Galaxy S8 with a 5.8-inch screen and the larger S8 Plus with a 6.2-inch screen. Both are available for preorder on March 30th and will be shipping in the US on April 21st. Pricing, as always with Samsung, is up to the carriers — but you can expect them to command a premium price. The early word is that it will start at $720.

Here’s everything we learned about these two phones after using them for an hour or two last week.

Again, you are apparently in search of a problem that doesn’t exist. I have never, ever, had to replace a battery on any of my mobile devices. I have iPods that are over 10 years old that still run for hours on the original battery. My original iPad still loyally serves me on my 5-hour daily commutes to NYC and all I have to do is plug it in at night before I go to bed. None of my mobile phones (and I’ve had Samsung too) ever needed to have the battery replaced. It’s a problem that simply doesn’t exist. You just need to be smart about how you recharge the battery. All my devices are plugged in at night and in the morning, they are good to go and last me all day, every day.

Well, ok. I must just being just imagining then. s/ My battery on this crap phone has gone from 100% to 50% after having charged all night, in just this time that I have been on freerepublic this day. We simply use our devices differently, and we don't even have the same devices. Arguing would be pointless. long time freepers just don't lose arguments. 😃 Oh, and I'm posting on the toilet. and I want to wipe my butt. Dang, lost my HTML too so this all runs together. Cheerio, good man.

I'm still using the Galaxy S5 and it's a terrific phone.

Despite its age, it still has better specs (camera, video, screen, etc.) than the latest iPhone.

I guess the problem with the Samsung phones is that we don't feel the need to upgrade every time a new one comes out... no reason to.

LOL yeah whatever, Apple is only good at playing catchup with Samsung. One of my only few points of contention with Rush is his slavish praise of Apple, when they just make inferior products these days, not bad products, but inferior to whatever equivalent Samsung is out there.

But Apple’s iPhones are NOT I.E.D’s, no? Unlike Samsung’s?

"BUT: Once you try an Apple iPhone, you won’t ever go back."

I would have to agree. I bought an IPhone 7 Plus last week and wondered why I stuck with Android for so long.

I’ll let you all know as I get my 8+ on Monday.

Needed a new phone for years. My old one was so outdated that it didn’t even appear on the trade in list.

Just yesterday bought a new lifetime-warrantee battery for my Galaxy S5. The S5 had gone into a "boot-loop", making it useless.

The S5 is telling me there's little memory left, but I've removed most of the apps that are allowed to be removed. Is it my photographs that need to be removed? If so, how do I remove them all?

Connect it to your PC via USB and use Windows Explorer to browse the files on the phone. The photos will be under the folder DCIM, and/or elsewhere (camera, etc.).

If you have an S5 you can move your pics from the phones internal memory to the SD card and you should have plenty of memory on your phone.

"All I want to know is if the battery is user servicable."

No, but the pin can be re-inserted if you chose not the throw the phone at the enemy.

My S7 Edge is less than a year old and the latest "update", Nougat, has slowed it down significantly. I wonder if that was done to push people to the S8......... (yeah, I'm that cynical)

I have to agree about Nougat. So far it feels more like malware than a useful upgrade. Battery life has gone down too.
