U.S. Sen. McCain says will support changing rules to confirm Gorsuch

U.S. Sen. John McCain on Monday announced that he will support an upcoming effort by his fellow Republicans to win Senate confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court by changing the chamber's rules in order to overcome Democratic opposition.

McCain, in remarks to reporters, said he had "no choice" but to go along with a change in rules ending a tradition of 60 votes in the 100-member Senate needed to advance Supreme Court nominees to a final vote. He said he would support the rule change "because we need to confirm Gorsuch."

In the past, McCain has strongly opposed such a change.

Was not sure I would ever see the GOP grow a set and do unto the democrats what they would surely do unto them were the tables reversed.

That said, I will only fully believe it when I see Gorsuch actually in the black robe sitting amongst the other Justices.

Mitch needs to grow a pair and tell these loser dems to stuff it. Remember: we won. But apparently “we won” means something entirely different to the repubs than the rest of the world. This is not an “everyone gets a trophy” game. It’s the lives of real people with real concerns.

Step it up Mitch. There’s more fights down the road guaranteed.

Don’t forget, Trump is now McConnel’s wife’s boss. He has a bit of leverage.

I think Graham has said something similar. Hopefully this will be completed this week.

He'll be confirmed by midnight Friday.

My guess is that the demonrats will blink and allow Gorsuch to be confirmed without a filibuster.

“To be fair, McConnell is the only reason we are even talking about confirming Gorsuch. He refused to cave on giving Garland consideration and kept the SCOTUS opening available for a potential GOP president”

Agree that McConnell won’t cave on this. But, it’s not because he has a spine - which he doesn’t. He won’t cave because he’s a excellent tea leaf reader and he knows He would loose his Senate Leadership if he did otherwise. Cornyn is the guy standing behind McConnell propping him up and moving his lips....

Yes. To NOT do so is a stupid move on their part.

I may be wrong but I believe that the ONLY Republican at this point that has not said 100% unequivocally they would support the nuclear option is Susan Collins, who said she remains “undecided” and “hopes it doesn't come to that”, but with the other 51 on board her vote isn't needed anyway so McConnell might give her a pass to vote no.

Susie is waiting for the bidding to end.

I think the next to go will be Kennedy. This is (politically speaking) his golden opportunity to retire before becoming ancient, and enjoy his twilight years sans a black robe.

I just hope Gorsuch doesn’t turn out to be another disappointment like Roberts, Kennedy and Souter. We can’t really know until they get on the court.

No. Go back to the old rules. Filibuster away, no peepee breaks, no nap or lunch time, keep at it around the clock. Let the Dems have their tradition. We’ll see how sincere they are about opposing Gorsuch.

Why slander the party supporting Trump’s nomination. Fragmenting the left’s opposition is what they do, not what we do. The enemy is the left, the enemy is the old media empire, the enemies are the Clinton and Obama crime families, and the enemies are the foreign invaders plotting mass murder in the name of Islam.
