Might have a point.
Democrats are going to be in charge some day in the near future and with this precedent they can ram through anyone they like.

Our turn to ram through a person we like. Obamites have had a far too easy time of ramming this and that down our throats while goody-two-shoes pubbies have politely receded into the woodwork.

What makes you think that if the dems were in charge they would not do the same thing? Harry Reid said they would back in October when he thought Hillary would win and they would get the Senate back. Waiting for them to do it first is beyond stupid in my opinion.

Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said he is confident that he has laid the groundwork for Democrats to nuke the filibuster for Supreme Court nominees if they win back the Senate in November.

Fairness Doctrine, Bye-Bye 2nd Amendment i.e. Massachusetts-Connecticut-New York style gun control nationwide, and Single Payer faster than **** thru a tin horn if we ever loose all 3 Branches in one shot like in 08'. We will be England overnight, I shutter at the the thought....

You mean like they did for the appellate court nominees? McCain made this exact same argument when it came to the gang of f14. He claimed that the Republicans would not want the Dems to nuke the filibuster when and if the Republicans were in the minority. Well, the Republicans became in the minority again and it is exactly what happened. Reid nuked the filibuster. McCain was silent. This man is a eunuch.

John McCain never ever gets tired of looking like a fool so long as the New York Times and other liberal rags report on him favorably. This fool is a poster boy for everything that is wrong with politicians.

They have already been doing that for a long time. Did you miss the Kagan and Sotomayor confirmations?

The last time the democrats had control they set the precedent we are now operating under. When they wanted to ram through objectionable appointment, they didn't talk about doing away with the filibuster, they actually did it. The only reason they did not include the supreme court appointment under they new rule was that there were no appointments pending. They did say, however, that if an appointment came up they would eliminate the filibuster if necessary to get them through. For anyone to now advocate that republicans refraining from eliminating the filibuster for supreme court nominations would be some kind of protection when democrats regain control is, to say the very least, quite naive. My uncharitable side would describe it as idiotic.

Uh, they ALREADY DID THAT - in 2013. The one and only reason that they didn’t use this for a Supreme Court nomination was because they didn’t feel like they had to do so. Make no mistake, whether the Harry Reid option is used by the Republicans or not, the Dems will damned well do whatever they please when they get the power - and they’ll have a compliant press to help rationalize it to the gullibles within the public.

McCain has NO point at all - he’s just steamed that Trump insulted him and ended up being President, which opportunity he blew 9 years ago by failing to attack Obama. IOW, he is a jealous little child, trapped in the body of a senile old goat.

The difference is that the Republicans always approve whoever the Democrats nominate anyway.
No need to ram through.

Big deal. When Dem SCOTUS nominees are considered, enough GOP will be willing to vote for cloture for them anyhow, w/out nuking the filibuster.

(That, I suspect, is the real reason McConnell prevented Garland from even getting a hearing.)
