New York state budget talks collapse

New York state budget talks collapsed Wednesday night after members of the Senate left the Capitol, with lawmakers from both parties blaming Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo for scuttling negotiations over the spending plan, now several days late.

Members of the Senate and Assembly insist they were close to an agreement and hoped to pass a budget this week after blowing past a Saturday deadline. Those hopes eroded Wednesday night after the Democratic governor summoned reporters to his office to say that while he would continue to negotiate, there was no final agreement. Less than an hour later the Senate walked out.

"What is happening right now is ridiculous," said Senate Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, D-Yonkers. "Dysfunction and chaos has descended on Albany. This situation has spiraled out of control and New Yorkers deserve better."

Senate Deputy Majority Leader John DeFrancisco, R-Syracuse, said Cuomo began raising new budget issues for the first time Wednesday, a move which complicated the talks.

Frustrated Democrats in the Assembly were more pointed.

"There's bipartisan agreement that the governor is the problem and has subtly sabotaged the negotiations," said Assemblyman Tom Abinanti, D-Westchester County.

When the people who’ve bankrupted NYS demand a bailout, you will...

Well, it’s interesting to the extent that it’s one more obstacle to Mario Jr’s White House bid.

As long as NYC is part if NYS, that will never happen. Which is why taxpayers are fleeing the state, taking billions in revenue with them.

I wonder if the rumored “exit tax” is finally in the works...

Dysfunction and chaos has descended on Albany

So what's his point?

This was an annual thing for years and years.

Don't like changing the law about changing the age from 16 to 18 as the age to be tried as an adult.

By mistake I worked 14 days in NYS a few years ago.

I had to file NYS income taxes.

More complicated and more work than Federal taxes.

And...

You must declare ALL the income you earned that year...not just in that 14 days. They want a cut of interest and dividends too. And they want a cut of any pension or retirement you earned too...

No wonder people are fleeing and no working person wants to move there.

Taxes out of control, property taxes rising to the level of New Jersey's, jobs disappearing, unconstitutional gun laws, less freedom, welfare cheats and illegal invaders welcomed with open arms.......

The state I was born in is a mess.

This situation has spiraled out of control and New Yorkers deserve better.

I was born and grew up there, and left for good in 1980.

That the situation has spiraled out of control is indisputable.

That NYers don't deserve it is ridiculous. They chose exactly what they have right now, and they deserve every ounce of it.

Exqueeze me? If everyone here loves it, why are so many taxpayers fleeing the state? We’re not all nuts. Some of us don’t think we’re entitled to other people’s hard-earned money. And we can count. But we are, sadly, outnumbered on election day.

No wonder people are fleeing and no working person wants to move there.

Rush was there Wednesday night and complained they watch him like a hawk, audit him every year even though he moved years ago. He does not like to go to New York for that reason.
