Report: President Trump Considering Ousting Preibus, Bannon
The Hill ^ | Max Greenwood

President Trump is considering ousting both White House chief of staff Reince Priebus and chief strategist Stephen Bannon, Axios reported on Friday.

Aides and advisers to the president told Axios that, while Trump is considering a major shakeup in the West Wing, it's not clear when it would happen or if Trump will "pull that trigger."

"Things are happening, but it's very unclear the president's willing to pull that trigger," one top aide said.

Firing them both would be an enormous upheaval for the young presidency, which has yet to hit its 100-day mark.

Axios did not say who could replace Bannon as Trump's chief strategist but reported that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Trump economic adviser Gary Cohn were among those being considered to replace Priebus as chief of staff.

Unnamed aides and advisors.

On the other hand, if things aren’t working smoothly, I expect Trump will replace heads until he finds the competence for the positions that he is looking for.

So I’m not worried. I have near total confidence in Trump’s ability to put the right people in the right jobs, and to make necessary corrections along the way.

“House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Trump economic adviser Gary Cohn”

Ugh.

It would seem to me that the fastest way to know what is on our President’s mind is to look at his tweets. Why does “The Hill” have any better insight?

I have never trusted Preibus, so I would be relieved if he left.
Bannon, however is the only reliable person from the right in the White House.

Preibus, probably yes. He has helped Pres. Trump at crucial moments before the election. Now, Reince, like Paul Ryan may be slowing the right actions down. Actions such as getting rid of O-Care, getting rid of Obama-Era government workers whereever possible.

I just do not know enough about Bannon to have much of an opinion. He has been an elusive (though to some an ‘ominous’) figure.

Bannon represents the nationalist-populist viewpoint at the WH. He clearly lost influence when the decision to attack Syria passed over his objection.

The Hill is citing Axios, a no name, no credibility site, in order to show Trump in a bad light. Shows what a joke the Hill is.

The Hill has become something of a buttoned up Daily Kos of sorts so caveat emptor.

Trump, the Business man, was hiring and firing people all the time, they did this part of the job, then someone else was hired to continue on the job...

Corey started with Trump, the Campaigner, then there was Manafort and then there was Reince, and now who, only President Trump knows...he’s a man that uses people for the ‘job’ not anything else...

Who or what is “Axios” and why is it being given any credibility? Sounds like just speculation, to me. As far as speculating, I can see why someone would speculate about the two, they’re both sort of lightning rods for controversy from opposite sides, and shedding controversy might seem to some a good move to help move things forward. But, I suspect much of what we’ve liked about Trump has been supported and reinforced by Bannon, and he’s been a foil for Kushner who seems a bit too left for most of our tastes, so losing him might mean more than is immediately apparent. Priebus I’ve always found suspect, rightly or wrongly. If he’s been a bridge to the rest of the party to try and smooth the way, he doesn’t appear to have been particularly effective.

Er, that’s the reason I voted for Trump.

With that viewpoint gone, what makes Trump different than all the other neocons?
