There are parts of Yemen worth caring about,but those are apparently on a tiny island off the Coast of the Horn of Africa. The rest is pretty much empty wasteland,with some religious fanatics/settlers.

No, it is not empty wasteland. Parts of Yemen is lush and green and the capital Sana’a (at 7000 feet) has a pleasant climate. It also is blessed with sweet, light, paraffinic, crude oil. The architecture is very interesting at some places.
