Russia’s unexpected announcement recognizing Israel’s eternal capital of Jerusalem, a dramatic decision that places Vladimir Putin against Donald Trump in a totally new big-power rivalry – the race to Jerusalem.

Many American and Israeli Jews have waited with mounting impatience for Trump to keep his campaign promise to move the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Against an atmosphere of US equivocation, Putin suddenly announced, without preamble or restricting conditions, the recognition of Israel’s capital, to take effect immediately.

I hope that Trump announces before Passover on Monday night.

The Haggadah the book that is read on Passover at Seders ends with "Next year in Jerusalem" Trump could make that a reality on the ground

Trump is too busy acting as the air force for ISIS.

Interesting. Any comment from the Iranians? The fakenews told me that Russia was aligned with them.

Since no Dem president ever declared Jerusalem Israel’s capitol, maybe the GOP could get some Jews to take a look at how anti Israel the Dems have become and that the GOP is the only party in the USA that is friendly towards Israel.

The Dem party is the party of Keith Ellison, pro Pally, the party that sent American State Department funds to interfere in Bibi’s election.

Whoa. The Palestinians [Jordan Refugees] are being thrown under the bus.

Or is Russia stirring up trouble knowing that the U.S will bare the brunt of the anger?

Whoa Nelly! This is a game changer. Especially on the UN Security Council. The change up - and the pitch!

What’s done is done bro.

hit The Donald with a Tweet telling him what you think.

I did. If you did not, please, any who were against it should do so. In a strong professional response.

Not my “WTF” Donald?” lol

We need to be pragmatic. He has done a number of good things and he will always be better than hillary BUT we need to remind him who got him elected and why.

We can’t go back. We can only go forward, my FRiend.

The tweets get discussed by many. He may not be informed about one, but hundreds of thousands, maybe.

“....a dramatic decision that places Vladimir Putin against Donald Trump in a totally new big-power rivalry – the race to Jerusalem.”

Can someone here please explain to me how this places Putin against Trump? Trump has said he wanted to do this all along.

I can argue that because of Trump Putin did this.

Can’t explain that one but it does mean there’s no way Russia can veto the US move on the Security Council and, in fact, may help sway China to the same position.

Russia no longer has any reason to play nice with the US. After our attack on that Syrian airbase they are now looking for any and all possible ways that they can cause us trouble. This is one.

Spite - always a good enough reason.

Nothing to do with Trump. It’s a move by Moscow to work towards cooperation with Israel, though I don’t understand the timing.

What does the UN security council have to do with where we place our embassy? I’ve never heard that one before. Seems to me it’s strictly the business of the two governments involved.

Whoa Nelly! This is a game changer. Especially on the UN Security Council. The change up - and the pitch!

There are more new recruits to the Israeli army [Tzahal] who speak Russian than speak English. And most of them are veterans of Russian military service.

Let me clarify that then and also for those who have not read the whole article. I was referring to this section of the article from the JPOST:

"Some of the possibilities are intriguing, from Russia using its Security Council veto to block condemnation of the move and instead to enable it; to the simultaneous move of both the Russian and American embassies initiating the return of the 13 foreign embassies that left Jerusalem in 1980 in response to Israel’s reunification"

In the back of my mind is also the fact that the UN has been used as an Israel bashing forum for a long time.

I’m sure! The great exodus starting in the late 80s from the Soviet Union comes to mind. I remember all the debates about Aliyah and matrilineal vs. patrilineal descent.

The reason that he hasn’t done so is probably because the Jordanian King counseled that it would make life very difficult for him; Jordan’s overloaded with Syrian refugees, not to mention the usual Palestinians ... and it’s fighting a war- it’s a tinderbox that could easily be set off.
