Warplanes strike Syrian town hit by chemical attack

I just saw a strange airplane.

I live in the Florida Panhandle. I was sitting on my porch watching a couple of commercial airliners probably from Panama City. They were both headed roughly NW but in slightly different directions.

As they faded in the distance, I saw another approaching from just slightly South of West and headed just barely North of East. It immediately struck me as different from the others. First it appeared to be going much faster and second, it just looked different.

I was viewing through good Nikon Tropical 7X50 binoculars and it looked almost like a cruise missile but more probably a large drone. I realize a cruise missile could not start from my area and reach any interesting place.

I took two quick photos but it was so far away that they are little more than blobs. I will upload one anyway and post it just in case anyone can recognize what it is.

I do want to stress just how fast it was moving tho I never heard a sonic boom.

Cruise missiles generally cruise at airliner type speeds. There are a few special supersonic variants. The max range of the ALCM and the Tomahawk are classified, but both likely have variants that can reach a target 2K miles away.

You might have seen a cruise missile test, as some new variants such as AGM-158C and others are currently being tested.

Small aircraft always appear to be flying faster than large aircraft.

On the approach path to an airport, a commuter jet will appear to be quite fast, while a heavy jet will seem to be nearly floating. But the actual speed of the heavy is easily 20-30 knots faster.
