None of them ever let us know exactly what they thought or what THEY LEARNED. I always gave those I voted for (when they were elected) a lot of leeways because what we know compared to what they know is a bit like the quote from Live Free or Die Hard.

It sounds to me like your definition of Trump thinking strategically is that whatever he does must be right in line with whatever his new strategy is, and that you therefore support him regardless.

I’m old enough to remember when no conservative American President would ever say about the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the People’s Republic of China (Xi Jinping): “We have a very good relationship.
