Chaffetz, 50, in the past had considered running for a U.S. Senate seat. A former Chaffetz aide on Wednesday told Reuters the congressman may run for Utah governor in 2020, though no firm decision had been made yet. If he's planning on running for office in the future then he wouldn't be talking about resigning early from the one he's got. That would kill any chances of being elected again.

Maybe he’s ill and hasn’t said anything about it yet....That's what I was thinking. At first he said he would not seek reelection when his present term expires. Now he's indicating that he may not even finish out his current term. Sounds like there's more to this than "I've had enough of Washington."
