Security Council Diplomats to Have Lunch With Trump

UNITED NATIONS — President Trump, who recently had Ted Nugent, Sarah Palin and Kid Rock over for a White House dinner, is planning to host 14 diplomats from around the world for lunch on Monday.

The diplomats are members of the powerful United Nations Security Council, an eclectic mix of America’s friends and rivals, and plenty of skeptics. Their guide to the White House is Mr. Trump’s outspoken envoy, Nikki R. Haley.

Halibut is on the menu, and a cheese soufflé, which one Council diplomat hoped would not be the most substantial part of the White House visit. As of Sunday, it was unclear who else the Council members would see, and whether Secretary of State Rex W. Tillerson would meet them.

The White House meeting follows a series of slights by the Trump administration toward the United Nations — and toward the idea of international cooperation in general. They include the administration’s antipathy to the climate agreement and the nuclear deal with Iran, its funding cuts to the United Nations population agency, and the broader funding cuts it has proposed for the world body....

So what does former Governor Palin and two musical celebrities dining with the president have to do with this story?

I noticed that (and was annoyed by it) too. What way is that to lead off a story about meeting with national security advisors? Did they mention all of Obama’s Friday night party guests in the first sentence of their articles discussing his upcoming meetings with advisors?!?!?

Tell them that we see the UN as a flop, when have they stopped war, or succeeded at anything of note.

I think Trump should say the era of Israel bashing and Jew hatred is over.

Israel is more powerful than many of the old Security council members. Israel lead many of them in Cyber, electronics, medical cures and devices.

Israel has the ability to shoot down missiles, has undisclosed nuke arsenal, but we all know they can strike via planes, rockets and subs. Israel is one of the most savvy Cyber states.

Israel should be on the Security Council.

The US should tell this group of 14 that the USA isn’t going to continue to pay so much for the UN and have so little to show for it.

And who cares about the menu for a diplomatic event? (one which has not even happened yet)

The NY Times is unbelievably shallow and worthless. Oh, right, they are liberals.

They manage to throw in the biased sneer that an anonymous diplomat “hopes” the menu won’t be the most substantive aspect of the event. The NY Times is biased scum.
