Thanks for your astute analysis of what probably happened.
My first (wild) guess is that Hezbollah was receiving a large weapons shipment from Iran, then Mossad learned of it in time for Israel to take it out. Just a guess, but that sort of thing has happened a number of times....

Likely Israeli air strike.
Good one! LOL!
More cruise missiles?
+1
The Damascus hub is reportedly used by Hezbollah to transfer weapons between Iran and Syrian government-backed fighters on some of Syrias toughest front lines.
Rebel sources said that the explosions appeared to have caused a fire in a closed military area of the complex used by Tehran to supply arms to Iranian-backed groups in the conflict.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is backed in the countrys brutal civil-war by Russia, Iran and regional Shiite militias, including Hezbollah, a close ally of Tehran.
What does Israel say?
An Israeli military spokeswoman declined to comment on the allegations.
However, speaking from the US, Israels Intelligence Minister, Israel Katz, said:
I can confirm that the incident in Syria corresponds completely with Israels policy to act to prevent Irans smuggling of advanced weapons via Syria to Hezbollah in Iran. Naturally, I dont want to elaborate on this. [...] The Prime Minister has said that whenever we receive intelligence that indicates an intention to transfer advanced weapons to Hezbollah, we will act.

Reminds me of the Israeli airstrike on a trainload of armaments a few years ago.
I think Saudi Arabia and Israel are working together on Iran with Syria being a pathway to that end and that cooperation will continue after Iran is dealt with.
President Trump has said he wants to deal with Iran and also supports a “two state solution” involving the Palestinians.
That’s the roadmap I see laid out.
Good call and such an early hour.
“I think Saudi Arabia and Israel are working together on Iran with Syria being a pathway to that end and that cooperation will continue after Iran is dealt with.”
Cooperation has been ongoing between Israel and the Saudis for some time, but only unofficially through back channels and on the QT. It will continue after Iran, but only after the Saudis angrily and loudly denounce Israeli aggression. The official reality and the truth are often and necessarily at odds in the Middle East.
Let Bibi take care of the scum. On both sides. :)
Iran is not happy of Saudi Arabia. A few year ago, over 400 Iranians were killed in the stampede at the Saudi controlled annual pilgrimage to Mecca, the Hajj.
Number of secondary explosions. Ordnance hit.
Excellent
