Exclusive: Trump says 'major, major' conflict with North Korea possible, but seeks diplomacy

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday a major conflict with North Korea is possible in the standoff over its nuclear and missile programs, but he would prefer a diplomatic outcome to the dispute.

"There is a chance that we could end up having a major, major conflict with North Korea. Absolutely," Trump told Reuters in an Oval Office interview ahead of his 100th day in office on Saturday.

Nonetheless, Trump said he wanted to peacefully resolve a crisis that has bedeviled multiple U.S. presidents, a path that he and his administration are emphasizing by preparing a variety of new economic sanctions while not taking the military option off the table.

"We'd love to solve things diplomatically but it's very difficult," he said.

Trump lavished praise on Chinese President Xi Jinping for Chinese assistance in trying to rein in North Korea. The two leaders met in Florida earlier this month.

"I believe he is trying very hard. He certainly doesn’t want to see turmoil and death. He doesn’t want to see it. He is a good man. He is a very good man and I got to know him very well.

Yep. Ron Paul believes there isn`t a world conflict for which the U.S. and its `neocon` politicians aren`t responsible or didn`t create. Apparantly, before the U.S. came along, everything was just peachy. There were no evil actors in the world, and nations all lived in peace and harmony and just minded there own business.

Busy reading the third of Ken Follett's trilogy - "Edge Of Eternity". At the part of the Cuban missile crisis.

Cannot imagine any country now firing a nuclear missile. It surely would be "The Edge Of Eternity".

Thank God for Ronald Reagan and Donald J Trump.

Sooner or later he’ll have to take on Iran too.

Hopefully North Korea can be cleaned up in short order.

I don’t think it will be cleaned up nearly as easily nor in as short order as many may wish. Hopefully it won’t be a repeat of the 1914 “We’ll be home by Christmas” optimism. Whatever happens in North Korea, you can bet your last centavo Iran is watching VERY closely. Trump cannot afford to blow this, or appear wishy-washy (read: Obama-ish).

Going to war with anyone is NOT like cleaning out the house. Our yung men and women will die and be maimed. Think very carefully and unless you’ve been in the military, especially combat arms, STFU.

I stand corrected. You DO understand the HOT in hot mess. My mistake.

To each his own, I guess.

I appreciate you bringing it to my attention. If it was improper I’d have to quite using it. I seldom do anyway.

At any rate, take care.

I don’t consider it a mistake. You had reason to think you were right. No harm, no foul...

Can’t say you’re wrong there. There are a number of scenarios, and they aren’t all in our favor.

Yes, N.K., and Iran are in the same boat.

It’s a mess brought on by presidents who kicked the can on down the road.
