But this is only in California, right?

Since water seeks its own level, wouldn't the entire west coast of north and south America see the same rise?

A knee-buckling new state-commissioned report warns that if nothing changes, California’s coastal waters will rise at a rate 30 to 40 times faster than in the last century.

I don’t live in California and I don’t plan to be there 70 years from now.

Reason number 316 why I’m glad I don’t live in California. Glub, glub.

When the coast is toast and the rally cry is “Surfs up in
Lathrop!” you will just have to fall on your sword and
serve as a new coastal liberal. It is just the coastal
thing to do!

ok, wow, that’s hugh and series...

At that rate, we can then expect to see and increase of over well over a foot within the next 20 years right? Or several inches over the next 10 years right?

What I find amazing is that anyone still listens to these predictions, they’re laughable.

The Sun could rise in the west next week then return to the East the week after. It could. Really.

Here's a start. There are a few errors in some of the posts. Start with the fact that solid water at 0° C is less dense than liquid water at the same temperature. The ocean surface is not spherical but rather parabolic and impacts the surface calculation. What would be the impact on inland bodies of water that drain to the ocean? If sea level rises 1 foot at Cape May, what happens to the Monongahela River or Lake Champlain? What's the average slope of the coast on earth? How long does it take and to what extent does the bosom of Gaia rebound after millennia of compression under thousands of feet of ice?

A thumbnail guesstimate would be easy but still beyond the comprehension of green weenie true believers. Fractals, chaos, and a Cray computer might get close.

Archimedes Principle be damned!!

Stop using science!!!

I have a family member that is convinced sea levels are rising in FLORIDA!! ...but yes, JUST FLORIDA!!! ...so concerned as to reach out to friends in the area to help.

Grab the feelings of a liberal and you can convince them of ANYTHING.

I once told them, “it’s surprising but *most* people are of lower-than *average* intelligence”. They all nodded. lol.

Critical thinking skills are in short supply.

Well this scare could be due to Rep. Hank Johnson’s early concern about 8000 additional US Marines tipping over the island of Okinawa.

San Jose Murkier just extrapolated a tsunami hitting Cal. from that old item.

;>)

Yes, but Florida does have a problem with land subsidence due to taking too much ground water out. This could also be part of the problem in CA.

You mean it could be more complicated????? That plate tectonics, erosion, and other factors may cause a perception of sea level changes in a specific area????

;p

Drive through Pendleton.
Look East AND UP
See the old beaches about 200 (?) feet ABOVE you.
What is wrong here?
